Farm to School BC is organizing an event on October 26 at 3:30 to share resources and ideas for using family affordability funds to support school food services in the Capital Region.About this event
Many schools in our region have or will soon be receiving a significant influx of funds to support school food programs. This gathering is for those people who are interested in exploring opportunities to use those funds to provide healthy meals to as many students as possible, while building program sustainability beyond the term of this one year funding. The gathering will open with a short presentation introducing many organizations and programs that may be able to help your school efficiently access food and resources to help serve it. The remaining portion of the session will divide the group into small break out rooms with a knowledgeable facilitator to discuss challenges and opportunities related to:
- Breakfast programs
- Lunch programs
- Snack programs
- High school food services
- Community hampers and food for families
These break out rooms will be an opportunity for participants to learn from each other and see what other schools are doing or planning. Detailed notes from the discussions will be made and shared. Farm to School BC and its partners will also seek to provide further support following from the discussion. If you are interested in the resources and notes from this meeting but are unable to attend, please contact Matthew, the Capital Region Animator for Farm to School BC, at capitalregion@farmtoschoolbc.ca.
