Dacian Filipescu, a grade 6 student here at Royal Oak Middle School, suffers from Duchenne Muscular
Dystrophy. He
is a huge sports fan and has made an effort to participate on every
athletic team offered at ROMS. He has recently even started playing
hockey (with Wally). Last week, he was recognized at a Peninsula
Panther's hockey game. His parents invited a few of us to come watch as
they knew what was in store. He arrived knowing that he was going to be
recognized and that they were going to give him a Panther's jersey. It
ended up being an incredible night of surprises. During the
presentation, the "Help Fill a Dream" foundation informed him that they
would be sending his whole family to Edmonton to watch two Oiler's games
(his favourite team). They gave him a signed Gretzky hockey stick, a
jersey and tickets to the game! During intermission, he was surprised
again with a stack of hockey cards of him playing hockey. He got to sign
them for all the fans alongside the players.
