Congratulations to the ROMS Mx Group for winning the Saanich Youth Award. The Mx group is a student initiative youth group that raises awareness around social justice. Thank you for representing ROMS in our community!


Boys Group: A reminder that Boys' Group meet today at the Beginning of Advisory in the Blue Conference Room.


Drama Club: The small drama group meets today at 116 in the drama room. Please bring your permission form for our trip to UVIC next Tuesday. 


Drawing Club: Drawing club meets today at 1:16 in Ms. Kardash’s room 123.


Europe Trip 2021: all grade 6 students travelling to Europe in their grade 8 year, see Mrs Ryan her room at 11:23 today. 


Grade 8 Farewell: A reminder that Grade 8 Farewell tickets go on sale starting this Friday during outside activity time. $15. for tickets.


Juvenile Diabetes: Please support this important cause. Donate a toonie – buy a shoe. The hallway with the most shoes gets entered into another draw for a chance to win movie passes.



From the Learning Commons - today, June 6, is the 75th anniversary of D-Day, a very important day in Canadian history. Do you know anything about it? Want to learn more about it? Visit the LC today and tomorrow to see the display, and talk to Ms. Lindsay. 


Lochside Helpers: A reminder to all of the students who will be helping out at the Lochside fun day that you must get permission forms in to Mr. Bergeron by Friday.


Morning Announcers: Grade 7 students interested in reading the morning announcements next school year can pick up an application outside the office. Application deadline is 9:00 a.m. June 17th.


Paper Recycling Today:

Just a reminder that it is paper recycling day today. Please make sure that you send a student down with your recycling to the bins at the beginning of Advisory.


Canteen Thursday: On sale at recess today -mac & cheese. cookies & iced tea.

ROMS SPORTS:

Athletic Jerseys:
All students who participated in Athletics this year are asked to return any Royal Oak jerseys that may have been accidentally home to the PE office as we will need them next year.


Athletic Leadership:
Reminder to all athletic leadership members of our additional meeting today during advisory. Please bring your lunches to the gym after block 3.


Track & Field: Congratulations to our track and field team who competed in the City Championships yesterday. We had some great performances, showed excellent sportsmanship, and did a great job representing Royal Oak. A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteer coaches at practices and track meets who contributed to this season's success. Go Eagles!


Found: A key on a Universal Studios key chain was found at the front of the school a few days ago. Please claim at the office.


ROMS PARENT REVIEW:


Good Grief – Supporting adults who are supporting youth in grief


When loss and change hit home, it can be an overwhelming time for the whole family. People grieve differently, and, for youth especially, grieving is a unique experience different from children or adults. This 1.5 hour workshop is for parents, grandparents, neighbours, friends and others who would like to learn more about how to support youth through grief.


Friends of Living and Learning Through Loss will offer an educational space to review conceptual and practical tools to facilitate healthy conversations and strategies for healing with youth at no cost to attendees.

 

Topics will include: grief and mourning in youth, various types of loss (tangible, intangible), life areas impacted by grief, coping strategies and support tools, and an overview of the programs and resources that Friends of Living and Learning Through Loss offers.


This special 90 minute workshop will be held on Wednesday, June 5th from 7:00pm - 8:30pm in the Learning Commons at Royal Oak Middle School.  Please register at:

Homework Club: Extra academic support is available to students through the homework club. This is a drop in service that will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings from 8-9 am in the Learning Commons, and Tuesday afternoon in Room 215 from 3:10-4:10 pm.

Grade 8 Farewell: 

The Grade 8 farewell event will be an evening full of fun, food and friends.  It is a celebration of all the memorable times the Grade 8’s have shared at Royal Oak.  We wish them success as they head to high school. 

What: A Black and White Farewell  (Casual Event for Students)

When:  – Monday, June 24th at 6:00 pm   Open to all Grade 8 students (please note: dress will be summer casual - any colour welcome). 

Cost: $15. Tickets will be on sale every Friday in June, during lunch activity time. Students can buy their ticket starting this week!
