Welcome to the Claremont PEP students who will be visiting all of our grade 8 classes today during block 1.

Archery Club: All archery club members meet Mr. Goy today at 3:00 pm at the front of the school.

Band Sectionals:

All grade 6 bass players have sectionals today at 1pm in the band room.

Jazz Band: There will be a jazz band rehearsal today at 1:30pm in the band room.

Boys Group: Boys group is canceled for today, we will meet again next week.

Choir: A reminder to all choir students of your practice today at first recess in the band room.

Drama Club:
Drama Club members have rehearsal on Thursday and Friday this week at 1:16 pm. Please bring your scripts and have your parts memorized!

From the Learning Commons - while we were off on snow days, Ms. Lindsay went on a buying spree on Amazon! New novels and graphic novels are being processed by Ms. Gaudet every day, so check out the display by the desktops. If you made a suggestion in the new book box, stay tuned, you may be getting a notice any day! And when you check out a book, don't forget your ID - we still have lots of Hershey's Kisses.

Math Challengers:
The final math challengers preparation session is
today at 1:16 in Miss Cottier's room.  Please ensure that your permission form has been received to participate in the competition on Friday.

Paper Recycling Today: Just a reminder that it is paper recycling day today. Please make sure that you send a student down with your recycling to the bins at the beginning of Advisory.

ROMS Hoodies: 

Today is that last day to order Limited edition Royal Oak Eagles Champion. Sample sizes can be tried on at the PE office, and order forms can also be found on the ROMS Athletics website and outside the PE office. This will be the last time they are available, so don't delay handing your order into Mr. Menzies. Our goal for the delivery of the hoodies is March 14th.

Science Challengers:
If you are interested in joining the Science Challengers but did not come to this week's meeting, please find Mr Azim today at first or second recess for an information letter.  We will set up our teams next Tuesday at lunch recess.

Canteen Thursday: On sale at recess today -chicken wings, cookies & hot chocolate..

Athletic Leadership:
Reminder to all members of athletic leadership that our weekly meeting is today during advisory due to the ski trip tomorrow. Please bring your lunch to the gym after advisory.

Gr 8 Boys Rugby:
Notice to all grade 8 boys interested in playing for the Royal Oak Eagles Rugby team - there is a meeting in Mr. Stanchfield's room, 232,
today at morning recess. 


There will be a mandatory meeting for all members of Mr. Hasting's grade 6/7 boys competitive volleyball team at the PE office today at FIRST recess to confirm transportation to today's game at Spencer. All player must attend.

Practicing today at lunch recess are Mrs. Gill's and Mrs. Blaikie's grade 6/7 girls team, and Mr. Ravenhill's grade 6/7 boys rec team. Practicing after school is Mr. Sparanese's grade 7 girls team, and the grade 8 boys team.

Claremont Counsellor Appointments

Gr 8 Parents wishing to meet with a Claremont Counsellor with questions and concerns regarding academic pathways, course selection and class placement may book an appointment to meet with a Claremont Counsellor on February 28 & March 1 between 9:00 am and noon. Appointments will be held at Royal Oak Middle School and can be scheduled by contacting Donna Punt at 250-479-7128 Extension 452 or emailing your request for an appointment to dpunt@saanichschools.bc.ca Please ensure that you provide your student's name & Division your name and contact information. Thank you!

2019-20 Registration began on February 4th at 8:00 am for new registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.  Registration packages are available on-line or at the School Office.

Please note that we will not be hosting an Open House this year (previously held in February).   An information evening will be held later in May for all confirmed incoming Grade 5 students including  new (grade 6/7/8) registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.

Returning ROMS students do not have to complete a registration form. Grade 8 students transitioning to Claremont for Grade 9 in September do not have to complete a registration form for Claremont.

Band Registration: Mr. Bridgman will be handing out band registration forms to all current grade 6 and 7 band students. Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 1st.

Homework Club: Extra academic support is available to students through the homework club. This is a drop in service that will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings from 8-9 am in the Learning Commons, and Tuesday afternoon in Room 215 from 3:10-4:10 pm.

Online ordering and payment now available

Dear ROMS Parents, 

This year we are going to try a new approach to ordering/purchasing or donating for the Royal Oak Middle School PAC.  We are moving to on line ordering to ensure accuracy and to make the process as easy for everyone as possible.

Drum roaster Coffee can now be ordered on line, and more ROMS fund raisers will appear throughout the year.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Enter Access Code “ROMS”

  • Complete the rest of the registration form.  (Including your email address will ensure you receive reminder emails about fund raising/event deadlines.)

  • Follow the instructions to add each child in your family who attends Royal Oak Middle School.

  • Once your child(ren) are registered, click on “Orders” to order anything that is available for fund raising.


We only accept PayPal (www.paypal.com).  No cheque or cash payments will be accepted at any time.  

You can pay with a credit card as a PayPal guest (Visa, Mastercard or Amex), or set up your own PayPal account.

Thrifty Smile Cards: All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would like a card, please contact romsparents@gmail.com.
