Band Sectionals:

All grade 6 bass players have sectionals on Thurs, Feb. 21 at 1pm in the band room.

Chess Club:
Anyone interested in playing chess is welcome to play every Wednesday at lunch in room 230 (Mr Azim's room).  Students from all grades and skill levels are welcome.  Whether you are a beginner or a competitive chess player, stop in today!

Choir: A reminder to all choir students of your practice times this week: we will meet in the bandroom today and Thursday at first recess.  Please come right away as time is short.

Grade 8 Transition: All grade 8 students are to go to their block 3 teacher as per normal. The block 3 teacher will bring the class down to the MPR. Claremont Counsellors will be there to hand out and discuss course selection forms.

Math Challengers: 

The final math challengers preparation session is this Thursday at 1:16 in Miss Cottier's room.  Please ensure that your permission form has been received to participate in the competition on Friday.

Rafiki Bracelets: Miss Cottier has 10 beautiful Rafiki bracelets available for $10 each.  Each bracelet supports both women in Kenya and our village initiative in Haiti.  Please come to room 222 if you would like to purchase a bracelet.

ROMS Hoodies:
Tomorrow, Thursday February 21st, is the final day to hand in orders for limited edition ROMS Champion hoodies. Order forms can be found on the ROMS Athletics website and outside the PE office. Also, sample sizes can be found in the PE office. Please talk to Mr. Menzies if you have any questions.

Popcorn: On sale at morning recess at the canteen. $1.50 per bag.

Canteen Thursday: On sale at recess tomorrow -chicken wings, cookies & hot chocolate..


Athletic Leadership:
Members of Athletic Leadership are reminded of your duties and shifts this week, and that our weekly meeting is scheduled for Thursday during advisory due to the ski trip on Friday.

Grade 6/7 Intra Murals:
With their backs against a wall, the blue floor rallied back to win their first game of the Blue Floor versus Green Floor Dungeonball series yesterday. The best of 7 series is now at 3 wins for the green floor and 1 win for the green floor. The series will continue next Tuesday.

Grade 8 Intra Murals:
Notice to divisions 8-2, 8-3, 8-6 and 8-7 of their intra-mural dodgeball games Wednesday at lunch. 

Gr 8 Boys Rugby:
Notice to all grade 8 boys interested in playing for the Royal Oak Eagles Rugby team - there is a meeting in Mr. Stanchfield's room, 232, Thursday at morning recess. 


Canceled games from last week may be rescheduled, so stay tuned for details and notices regarding this. 

Gr 8 Girls Blue Team:
Grade 8 Girls Volleyball Blue Team Coach Goy has a mandatory meeting today at recess in room 133 to discuss rides to today's game at PCS.

Claremont Counsellor Appointments

Gr 8 Parents wishing to meet with a Claremont Counsellor with questions and concerns regarding academic pathways, course selection and class placement may book an appointment to meet with a Claremont Counsellor on February 28 & March 1 between 9:00 am and noon. Appointments will be held at Royal Oak Middle School and can be scheduled by contacting Donna Punt at 250-479-7128 Extension 452 or emailing your request for an appointment to dpunt@saanichschools.bc.ca Please ensure that you provide your student's name & Division your name and contact information. Thank you!

**Please note that Claremont Counsellors will be visiting Royal Oak Middle School on Wednesday, February 20 during Block 3 between 11:40 am and 12:47 pm to hand out Course Selection Forms to Grade 8 students.

2019-20 Registration began on February 4th at 8:00 am for new registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.  Registration packages are available on-line or at the School Office.

Please note that we will not be hosting an Open House this year (previously held in February).   An information evening will be held later in May for all confirmed incoming Grade 5 students including  new (grade 6/7/8) registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.

Returning ROMS students do not have to complete a registration form. Grade 8 students transitioning to Claremont for Grade 9 in September do not have to complete a registration form for Claremont.

Band Registration: Mr. Bridgman will be handing out band registration forms to all current grade 6 and 7 band students. Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 1st.

Handbags for Hope: There is a drop off donation bin in the main foyer of the school. Please consider donating new and gently used handbags, scarves and jewelry. Handbags for Hope fund raiser supporting BC Children’s Hospital is hosting an event on Friday, Feb 22nd at the Fairmont Empress.

Homework Club: Extra academic support is available to students through the homework club. This is a drop in service that will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings from 8-9 am in the Learning Commons, and Tuesday afternoon in Room 215 from 3:10-4:10 pm.

Online ordering and payment now available

Dear ROMS Parents, 

This year we are going to try a new approach to ordering/purchasing or donating for the Royal Oak Middle School PAC.  We are moving to on line ordering to ensure accuracy and to make the process as easy for everyone as possible.

Drum roaster Coffee can now be ordered on line, and more ROMS fund raisers will appear throughout the year.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Enter Access Code “ROMS”

  • Complete the rest of the registration form.  (Including your email address will ensure you receive reminder emails about fund raising/event deadlines.)

  • Follow the instructions to add each child in your family who attends Royal Oak Middle School.

  • Once your child(ren) are registered, click on “Orders” to order anything that is available for fund raising.


We only accept PayPal (www.paypal.com).  No cheque or cash payments will be accepted at any time.  

You can pay with a credit card as a PayPal guest (Visa, Mastercard or Amex), or set up your own PayPal account.

Thrifty Smile Cards: All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would like a card, please contact romsparents@gmail.com.
