Band Sectionals:

Jazz Band: ll grade 6 percussion players have sectionals on Tues, Feb. 19 at 1pm in the band room

There is a very important meeting for the choir in the band room at first recess today. We need to talk about our upcoming performance at the pink shirt day assembly.

Girls Group:
Girls in rotation 1 will meet at Advisory at the Blue conference for some fun activities today. See you there! 

Grade 8 Ski Trip:
There is a 
mandatory meeting today at lunch activity time for all students attending the Grade 8 Ski Trip on Friday. Please meet in the MPR immediately following advisory today.

Gr 8 Transition: A reminder that there is a parent course selection information event at Claremont tonight from 6:00-7:00pm

There is no judo after school today as the staff meeting was rescheduled.  See you back on the mats next week!

Random Act of Kindness Week: Just a reminder that our Random Acts of Kindness week has been extended into this week.  Each division has until FRIDAY this week to complete your Random Act of Kindness for your chosen division.  Looking forward to seeing what you've come up with to help us celebrate compassion and kindness at ROMS!

ROMS Hoodies:
Limited edition Royal Oak Eagles Champion hoodies are available for order until Thursday this week. Order forms and sample sizes can be found at the PE office, and order forms can also be found on the ROMS Athletics website. This will be the last time they are available, so don't delay handing your order into Mr. Menzies.

Science Challengers:
If you are interested in science and willing to compete for ROMS, please attend a Science Challengers Information today in Room 230 at lunch recess.  If you are unable to attend, please see Mr Azim today or tomorrow at first or second recess.  There is a deadline for participation.

Snow:  Reminder that we are saying no to snow ball throwing.  The snow has crystallized into ice and it could easily cause injury.  It comes down to a safety issue.  You are welcome to play with the snow, but not throwing it at each other.


Athletic Leadership:
Athletic leadership members are reminded of your shifts and responsibilities this week. Our meeting will be on Thursday this week due to the grade 8 ski trip.

Grade 8 Intra Murals:
Notice to divisions 8-2, 8-3, 8-6 and 8-7 of their intra-mural dodgeball games Wednesday at lunch. 

Gr 8 Boys Rugby:
Notice to all grade 8 boys interested in playing for the Royal Oak Eagles Rugby team - there is a meeting in Mr. Stanchfield's room, 232, Thursday at morning recess. 

Congratulations to our grade 7 girls teams who participated in the tournament last Friday. Both teams played their best and had lots of fun. A big thank you to coach Jim Smyth and Mr. Sparanese for running the tournament.

Currently, league commissioners are working to re-scheduled canceled games from last week, so please stay tuned for updates and notices about re-scheduled games.

Gr 7/8 Rec:
There will be a team meeting with Mrs Kreiser at morning recess today in room 215. 

Team Black: Grade 8 girls Team Black Mr Hilleren’s Team. There is a quick mandatory meeting at first recess today in Mr Hilleren’s Room 229. See you there


Grade 8 Transition:

Feb 19 – 6:00-7:00 pm - Parent Course Selection Information Night @ Claremont

Feb 20 – 9:00 am -12:15 pm – Claremont Counsellors @ ROMS to hand out Course Selection forms

Feb 27 & 28 – Claremont Counsellor appointments

2019-20 Registration began on February 4th at 8:00 am for new registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.  Registration packages are available on-line or at the School Office.

Please note that we will not be hosting an Open House this year (previously held in February).   An information evening will be held later in May for all confirmed incoming Grade 5 students including  new (grade 6/7/8) registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.

Returning ROMS students do not have to complete a registration form. Grade 8 students transitioning to Claremont for Grade 9 in September do not have to complete a registration form for Claremont.

Band Registration: Mr. Bridgman will be handing out band registration forms to all current grade 6 and 7 band students. Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 1st.

Handbags for Hope: There is a drop off donation bin in the main foyer of the school. Please consider donating new and gently used handbags, scarves and jewelry. Handbags for Hope fund raiser supporting BC Children’s Hospital is hosting an event on Friday, Feb 22nd at the Fairmont Empress.

Homework Club: Extra academic support is available to students through the homework club. This is a drop in service that will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings from 8-9 am in the Learning Commons, and Tuesday afternoon in Room 215 from 3:10-4:10 pm.

Online ordering and payment now available

Dear ROMS Parents, 

This year we are going to try a new approach to ordering/purchasing or donating for the Royal Oak Middle School PAC.  We are moving to on line ordering to ensure accuracy and to make the process as easy for everyone as possible.

Drum roaster Coffee can now be ordered on line, and more ROMS fund raisers will appear throughout the year.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Enter Access Code “ROMS”

  • Complete the rest of the registration form.  (Including your email address will ensure you receive reminder emails about fund raising/event deadlines.)

  • Follow the instructions to add each child in your family who attends Royal Oak Middle School.

  • Once your child(ren) are registered, click on “Orders” to order anything that is available for fund raising.


We only accept PayPal (www.paypal.com).  No cheque or cash payments will be accepted at any time.  

You can pay with a credit card as a PayPal guest (Visa, Mastercard or Amex), or set up your own PayPal account.

Thrifty Smile Cards: All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would like a card, please contact romsparents@gmail.com.
