Adel Trainers:
Adel (AA DULL) Trainers are meeting in the Drama Room Block 3.  Remember to bring your lunch.  See you there!

Band Sectionals: All grade 6 trombone players have sectionals tomorrow at 1pm in the band room.

Jazz Band: There will be a jazz band rehearsal tomorrow at 1:30pm in the band room.

Drama Club:
Drama club is rehearsing on Thursday at 1:16 in the drama room.  This is an important meeting as we will begin casting roles for our plays. See Ms Noel if you have any questions.

Eagles Club: Eagles Club is meeting today in block 2 in Rm 215.  We will finish our beaded poppies from last week. See you then!

Grade 8 Bake sale: Thank you to all the students and staff who came by and supported the Grade 8 Fund raiser last week. $555.55 was raised for the Grade 8 Farewell! Thank you for your support!

Grade 8 Transition: Claremont is hosting their annual Showcase Open House next week on February 12th from 6:00-8:00 pm. All grade 8 families are encouraged to attend. Please check out their website for further information.

Claremont students from the Pursuit of Excellence Program will be coming to Royal Oak next week on Thursday, February 14th during Block 1 to present to the Grade 8 classes on the program.

From the Learning Commons - it's Wednesday, which means the Wednesday Writers Group is meeting in the LC - tell Ms. Lindsay you're coming in for that, and she'll give you a Chrome book (first 6). This is a great time to mention that Samantha H. M-6 and Ceres E. M-7, have made it through the first round of the Polar Expressions Writing Contest, which happened in November. Good luck to these two students!

Math Challengers: What did the Zero say to the Eight.....Nice Belt! The next math challengers meeting is tomorrow at 1:16 in Miss Cotter's room.  It is important for all those interested in competing at Camoens on Friday, February 22nd to attend to ensure that you get signed up.

ROMS Goodies:
Attention Royal Oak students! The 2018/2019 limited addition Champion Royal Oak goodies are again for sale due to popular demand. Order forms can be found on the ROMS Athletics website and outside the PE office, and sample sizes to try on can be found in the PE office. Talk to Mr. Menzies if you have any questions. Order forms are due by Feb 14th.

Talent Show:
Calling all performers interested in the 2019 ROMS Talent Show.  Don't forget to sign up for an audition time.   Auditions will start next week.  Unfortunately, if we do not have enough performers the talent show will be canceled.

Youth In Action: Rafiki bracelets go on sale tomorrow during advisory at the front of the school! Get your beautiful beaded bracelet to support both Kenya and our village initiative in Haiti for just $10!  The next Youth in Action meeting is this Thursday at 11:23 in Miss Cottier's room.

Canteen Thursday: On sale at first recess in the Canteen is sliders, cookies & hot chocolate.


Grade 8 Intra-murals:
Reminder to divisions 8-1, 8-4, 8-8 and 8-9 of their intra-mural dodge ball games today (Wednesday) at lunch. 

This week's volleyball practice schedule can be found on the ROMS Athletics website and on the PE office doors. The game schedule for all teams can be found at lowerislandschoolsports.ca. Please have a look at in both places to see when you are practicing and playing. Parents are reminded to ensure you have completed the SD63 transportation requirements if you plan on driving additional students to games.

Gr 6 Girls Competitive:
Congratulations to our still undefeated Gr 6 Girls Competitive Volleyball Team. Thanks to the Athletic Leadership students who helped with hosting. Go ROMS!! 

Gr 8 Girls Competitive: Ms. Espedido's Green Competitive team will have a short meeting during 1st recess in room 220. 

Gr 8 Girls team black: There is a mandatory quick meeting at first recess today in Mr Hilleren's room 229. see you there


Grade 8 Transition:

Feb 12 – 6:00-8:00 pm – Claremont Open House Showcase

Feb 14 – Block 1 @ ROMS – Pursuit of Excellence students present to our students

Feb 19 – 6:00-7:00 pm - Parent Course Selection Information Night @ Claremont

Feb 20 – 9:00 am -12:15 pm – Claremont Counsellors @ ROMS to hand out Course Selection forms

Feb 27 & 28 – Claremont Counsellor appointments

2019-20 Registration began on February 4th at 8:00 am for new registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.  Registration packages are available on-line or at the School Office.

Please note that we will not be hosting an Open House this year (previously held in February).   An information evening will be held later in May for all confirmed incoming Grade 5 students including  new (grade 6/7/8) registrations coming from Out of District, Out of Catchment, Private Schools or Out of Province.

Returning ROMS students do not have to complete a registration form. Grade 8 students transitioning to Claremont for Grade 9 in September do not have to complete a registration form for Claremont.

Band Registration: Mr. Bridgman will be handing out band registration forms to all current grade 6 and 7 band students. Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 1st.

Handbags for Hope: There is a drop off donation bin in the main foyer of the school. Please consider donating new and gently used handbags, scarves and jewelry. Handbags for Hope fund raiser supporting BC Children’s Hospital is hosting an event on Friday, Feb 22nd at the Fairmont Empress.

Homework Club: Extra academic support is available to students through the homework club. This is a drop in service that will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings from 8-9 am in the Learning Commons, and Tuesday afternoon in Room 215 from 3:10-4:10 pm.

Grade 8 Bake sale: Thank you to all the students and staff who came by and supported the Grade 8 Fund raiser last week. A huge thank you to the Grade 8 families who made this event possible by provided so many baking options. Lastly, thank you so much to our parent volunteers who donated their time selling the baked goods. $555.55 was raised for the Grade 8 Farewell!

Online ordering and payment now available

Dear ROMS Parents, 

This year we are going to try a new approach to ordering/purchasing or donating for the Royal Oak Middle School PAC.  We are moving to on line ordering to ensure accuracy and to make the process as easy for everyone as possible.

Drum roaster Coffee can now be ordered on line, and more ROMS fund raisers will appear throughout the year.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Enter Access Code “ROMS”

  • Complete the rest of the registration form.  (Including your email address will ensure you receive reminder emails about fund raising/event deadlines.)

  • Follow the instructions to add each child in your family who attends Royal Oak Middle School.

  • Once your child(ren) are registered, click on “Orders” to order anything that is available for fund raising.


We only accept PayPal (www.paypal.com).  No cheque or cash payments will be accepted at any time.  

You can pay with a credit card as a PayPal guest (Visa, Mastercard or Amex), or set up your own PayPal account.

Thrifty Smile Cards: All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would like a card, please contact romsparents@gmail.com.
