Band Sectionals:

All grade 6 flute players have sectionals on Thurs, Jan. 31 at 1pm in the band room.


Jazz Band: There will be a jazz band rehearsal on Thurs, Jan. 31 at 1:30pm in the band room.

Chess Club:
Anyone interested in playing chess is welcome to play every Wednesday at lunch in room 230 (Mr Azim's room).  Students from all grades and skill levels are welcome.  Whether you are a beginner or a competitive chess player, stop in on Wednesday! Run until spring break 2019.


Choir Practice: This week choir will be practicing today day at 1:16 in the band room. Please join us. All new members welcome!


Drama Club:
Drama club begins today with Phil Duchene and UVIC students presenting to our club.  We will meet at 1:16 in the drama room. New members are welcome! Come check out this fun club. See Ms Noel if you have any questions.


Eagles Club:

Eagles Club is not meeting today as our elder visit had to be rescheduled. We will meet next WED in block 2 in Rm 215 to finish beading our poppies. 


France Trip 2019: France trip meeting at lunch on Thursday..


Grade 8 Farewell Bake Sale: Please bring loonies, toonies and quarters this Friday to support the Grade 8 Farewell!  Baked goods will be sold in the canteen area at first and second recess. Gluten free, peanut free and dairy free items will be available. Thanks for your support!


From the Learning Commons - a reminder about the Wednesday Writers Group. Be one of the first 6 to mention this when you come in the door, and Ms. Lindsay will give you a Chromebook, if you want one. 


Pink Shirt Day: Feb 27th is anti bullying day! Order your pink shirt today - $20 per shirt. Order forms available outside the office. Order deadline is Feb 4th.


ROMS Talent Show:
The sign up for scheduled auditions are up today, outside of Room 220.  Your auditions should be thoroughly practiced at the time of auditions. Auditions will be held during lunch hours. Dances and singing, must have musical accompaniment..  Please bring speakers if you are using your personal device.  All acts are welcome!


Popcorn: On sale today at first recess at the canteen. $1.50 per bag.
Canteen Thursday: On sale at recess tomorrow -mac & cheese, cookies and hot chocolate.

Athletic Leadership:
Members of Athletic Leadership are reminded of your scheduled score keeping and morning shifts and duties this week.


Gr 8 Intra Murals:
Reminder to grade 8 divisions to check the intra-mural dodge ball schedule for Wednesday's games. 


Swim Club:
All members of the ROMS Swim Team are asked to again come to the gym at FIRST recess today to discuss this weekend's swim meet. All members of the team must attend.


Volleyball:
This week's volleyball practice schedule can be found on the PE office doors and on the ROMS Athletics website. Please have a look to see when your team is practicing. Volleyball players and parents are asked to go to lowerislandschoolsports.ca to view the game schedule for all teams and arrange transportation to away games. Parents are also asked to ensure you have all the SD63 transportation requirements met if you plan on driving additional students to away games.



Gr 6/7 boys Rec:  Important meeting today during first recess in the gym. All Players must attend.



Gr 7/8 Girls Rec:
We have our first jamboree today at Arbutus in Victoria. We will meet in Room 215 at morning recess today to collect forms and determine drivers. 


Gr 8 Girls: Players from Ms. Espedido's Green team, please meet in her room today at first recess- Hello, Sierra and Sydney!


ROMS PARENT REVIEW:


Homework Club: Extra academic support is available to students through the homework club. This is a drop in service that will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings from 8-9 am in the Learning Commons, and Tuesday afternoon in Room 215 from 3:10-4:10 pm.


A reminder to parents to contact the ROMS Safe Arrival Line at 250-479-0999 or email royaloak_attendance@saanichschools.ca if your child will be absent or late.

GRADE 8 FAREWELL BAKE SALE FUND RAISER

When:     Friday February 1,
2019

Time:      11:23-11:38am  & 1:16-1:56pm   (First recess and lunch
activity time)

Where:    ROMS canteen 

This will be one of the final fund raisers for the grade 8 farewell so we are asking for any grade 8 parents that are able to bake and deliver their baked goods to the school on
Friday February 1st from 8:30-9am.
 
Volunteers will be outside the office to accept baked goods. 

Please label any items as gluten free, peanut free, or dairy free, otherwise, all baked goods will be accepted! And don’t forget to send money with your child that day to purchase these yummy treats!

Online ordering and payment now available

Dear ROMS Parents, 


This year we are going to try a new approach to ordering/purchasing or donating for the Royal Oak Middle School PAC.  We are moving to on line ordering to ensure accuracy and to make the process as easy for everyone as possible.


Drum roaster Coffee can now be ordered on line, and more ROMS fund raisers will appear throughout the year.


Here’s how to get started:

  • Enter Access Code “ROMS”

  • Complete the rest of the registration form.  (Including your email address will ensure you receive reminder emails about fund raising/event deadlines.)

  • Follow the instructions to add each child in your family who attends Royal Oak Middle School.

  • Once your child(ren) are registered, click on “Orders” to order anything that is available for fund raising.

PayPal:

We only accept PayPal (www.paypal.com).  No cheque or cash payments will be accepted at any time.  

You can pay with a credit card as a PayPal guest (Visa, Mastercard or Amex), or set up your own PayPal account.

Thrifty Smile Cards: All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would like a card, please contact romsparents@gmail.com.
