Band Sectionals: All grade 6 trumpet players have sectionals on Thursday, June 7 during advisory in the band room.


Jazz Band: There will be a jazz band rehearsal on Thursday, June 7 during lunch recess in the band room.  Students who are interested in joining jazz band next year are encouraged to attend.


Eagles Group:
There will be a meeting for all Eagles club members today in block 2 in rm 215.  See you there!


Grade 8 Farewell: Around the World Extravaganza – Monday, June 25th at 6:00 pm. Open to all Grade 8 students. Tickets on sale Friday during lunch activity time. Tickets are $15. each. Don’t forget to bring your money!


Lochside Funday: All students who were previously registered as helpers for the Lochside Funday please meet Ms. Hunter in the Art Room at the beginning of first recess for a very important meeting.



Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF):

A few ROMS students, with Diabetes, are doing a fund raiser this week during lunch activity time for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation week. 

The students' will set up a table outside the MPR and sell paper running shoes for $2 each. 

The sold runners will be track by hallways, colour coded and put in a draw bucket.  

The hallway which buys the most runners, will be the hallway bucket that a ticket is drawn from for a Cineplex Movie package prize.  Only one one person wins!   Be sure to bring your $2 to support this cause. 



Popcorn: On sale at morning recess at the canteen. $1.50 per bag.


Canteen Thursday: On sale at recess tomorrow -chocolate chip cookies, mac & cheese & ice tea.


ROMS SPORTS:


Grade 8 Intra Murals: All grade 8’s are welcome in the MPR for Mac Attack at lunch today.


Track & Field: Best of luck to all ROMS students competing in the City Championiships at UVIC today. Go Eagles!

ROMS PARENT REVIEW:

Pride Parade: The Saanich School District is putting together a group to walk in this year's pride parade. We would like to include as many teachers, students and families as possible! We would be walking with a SD63 banner and promoting diversity and inclusiveness in our schools. 

If you and your family are interested in walking in the pride parade, please let us know so we can start getting numbers together . There is no cost, we will simply meet that morning then have a great time walking together! We will also give out a T-shirt with the district logo for you to wear.

School bus registration is now open for the 2018/19 school year. Please use the link provided to register your student. To ensure a seat on the bus please have your registration completed by June 29, 2018. The bus routes listed below are to be used as a guideline only. *****ROMS PAC NEWS:

The positions that are still available are the following:


The PAC President 

·         convene and preside at all general, special, and executive meetings;

·         be the official spokesperson on behalf of the Council;

·         consult with Council members;

·         ensure that an agenda is prepared and sent to members and that minutes are approved circulated as appropriate;

·         appoint committees where authorized by the membership or executive;

·         liaise with special committees as needed and be an ex-officio member of all committees;

·         ensure that the Council is represented in school and district activities;

·         communicate with the school principal on behalf of the Council;

·         ensure constitution and bylaws are followed and are reviewed and updated each year;

·         be a strong advocate for meaningful parent involvement in the school;

·         ensure a Nominating Committee is formed prior to each AGM;

·         be a signing officer

    Thrifty Foods Smile Cards Coordinator

·         Issue smile cards to incoming grade 6 families and anyone else who is interested in participating in the smile card fundraiser;

·         Submit an application for the Smile Card Program to Thrifty Foods in May. Thrifty Foods works with one contact person from the school only.  This will be the person who submitted the application.

If you want to see events and services similar to what we have accomplished in the past continue for next school year, please take the time to nominate parent/guardians for executive positions.  You may nominate yourself if you are interested in holding a position. Please email  <mailto:romsparents@gmail.com> romsparents@gmail.com we will be hosting a final executive meeting on June 14th with the current executives as well the new incoming executives. Hope to see the PAC executives positions filled by then.

Together the parents of Royal Oak Middle School can continue to make our school a great place for our kids, and I think you will all agree…OUR kids are worth it!!

Attention:   Grade 8 Parents – Grade 8 Farewell
Preparations are underway for a party for our grade 8 students on Monday, June 25th from 6-9 pm.   It will be an evening for celebration of the memorable times they have shared at Royal Oak and to wish them success as they head to high school.


In order for the Grade 8 Farewell Event to be successful we are asking Grade 8 parents, for help by donating an hour or so of your time; Please sign up for a time slot through Sign Up Genius at the below link:
