Band Sectionals: All grade 6 Trombone, Baritone and Bass players have sectionals during advisory in the band room on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Vocale Ensemble: There will be a vocal ensemble meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 1:15pm in the band room

Claremont Counsellors: A reminder to students and staff that the Claremont Counsellors will be coming around to all grade 8 classrooms this morning with Course Selection forms.

Conversation and Activities Club: Please join us for Conversations Club today in Room 227. Meet new friends, learn about other cultures, and practice your English. All students are welcome. Please see Ms. Beristain in room 219 for more information.

Drama Club: Drama Club members are reminded of rehearsal this Tuesday and Wednesday during advisory and lunch activity period in the drama room.

Grade 8 Bake sale Containers:  Please pick up your containers from the Grade 8 Farewell bake sale.  Containers are outside the Canteen.


Math Challengers:
A huge congratulations to Christian S, Jordyn T, Nicholas P, and Serena Z for competing in the regional Math Challengers contest at Camosun on Friday.  This is a huge accomplishment and ROMS commends you for a strong efforts!

Rafiki Bracelets:
There are still a few Rafiki Bracelets available to be purchased- Please see Miss Cottier in room 222 if you are interested in getting one.  All proceeds go towards our village initiative in Ethiopia.

ROMS TV News: ROMS TV - Would the following students please report to the learning commons at 11 a.m. (block 2) - Grace S., 7-1, Maddy R., M-8 and Rhian, M-2. Also we will have Anika, Mikyla and Larkyn, one more time. Thanks!

Youth In Action:
The next Youth in Action meeting is on Thursday at 11:23am in Miss Cottier's room.

Popcorn: On sale at morning recess at the canteen. $1.50 per bag.



This week's practice schedule for all teams has been posted on the Royal Oak Athletics webpage, and game schedules and league rules can be found at lowerislandschoolsports.ca. Please have a look to see when your team is practicing and playing this week. Players are reminded to confirm transportation arrangements to away game in advance and be able to tell their coach who is driving them to the game and home.

There will be a meeting in the gym today at FIRST recess for all grade 8 boys on the competitive team to confirm transportation to your away game at Gordon Head later today. All members must attend.

and Mr. Sparanese's grade 7 girls team.

Practicing after school today are:

The grade 6 girls competitive teams, and the grade 6/7 boys competitive team.

Grade 7 Girls:
There is an important meeting for Ms. Espedido's grade 7 Girls volleyball team today during First recess in her homeroom.

Grade 8 Intra Murals:
Reminder to grade 8 divisions to check this week's intra-mural dodgeball schedule on the PE bulletin board.

Gr 8 Rugby:

Notice to all boys interested in playing on the ROMS Eagles rugby team - first practice will be this Wednesday after school. See Mr. Stanchfield with any questions.

Claremont Counsellor Appointments

Gr 8 Parents wishing to meet with a Claremont Counsellor with questions and concerns regarding academic pathways, course selection and class placement may book a 15 minute appointment to meet with a Claremont Counsellor on February 27th between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm and February 28th between 9:00 am and noon.

Appointments will be held at Royal Oak Middle School and can be scheduled by contacting Donna Punt at 250-479-7128 extension 452 or emailing your request for an appointment to dpunt@sd63.bc.ca Please ensure that you provide your name and contact information as well as your student's name.. Bus Registration: As of February 1st the School District 63 transportation department will no longer be accepting bus registrations for the 2017-18 school year. Please contact the Transportation Department at 250-652-7343 if you have any questions.

Today is Monday, February 19 , and here’s the news about what’s happening at ROMS.  The weather calls for clouds with sunny periods and  a high of 10 degrees.   

Nine days left in the month of February.  This week we have cold temperatures.  Be sure to dress warm!

Did You know?

Since the beginning of the space age, humanity has been sending robotic emissaries to all corners of the solar system. These represent some of the most complex technological undertakings ever conceived. Travelling for years and even decades to their destinations, they have helped form a modern picture of the solar system, replete with the bizarre but also the familiar, that is very different than the views held by previous generations. This year promises to enrich our collective conscious with new vistas of the lunar landscape, close-up views of space rocks that might one day threaten the Earth


  • Recycled paper produces 73% less air pollution than if it was made from raw materials.
