Band Sectionals: Practicing today are trumpet sectionals at 12:46 in the Band room. Please bring your lunch!


Girls Group: Today, girls in rotation 1 will be celebrating TACO TUESDAY! Please meet in Room 215 at the bell for advisory so we can start cooking right away. See you there!


Go Girls: A group mentoring program for girls aged 12-14 yrs that promotes physical activity, balanced eating and positive self-image. Sponsored by Big Brothers & Big sisters of Victoria. 10 free sessions beginning February 7-April 11 6-8 pm at Greenglade Community Centre. 

Grade 8 Baby Photos: Please email a digital copy of your Grade 8 Baby Photo to Miss Cottier by March 18th to have it included in the year.  Miss Cottier's email is ecottier@sd63.bc.ca.


Judo: A reminder to that Judo club is today after school in the MPR from 3:15-4:45 pm. See Mr. Mollard if you cannot attend.

Yesterday's winners (because they remembered to bring their picture ID when they signed out a book) are Emma D., 6-3, John W., 6-2, Matt D., also in 6-2, Tazaya G., M-6, and Danielle J., also 6-3. Our 6's are smart cookies! Come by the LC and pick up your prize. Today's winning number is 3. From now on, and until the contest finishes Feb. 15, the number of the day will be posted on the LC door. 


Pink Shirt Day: Feb 28th is pink shirt day, an anti-bullying day. If you are interested in purchasing a Think Pink t-shirt you can find order forms outside the office or on our school website. T-shirts are $15. each. Order deadline is Friday, February 9th. Size samples will be available starting tomorrow during lunch activity time in the main foyer.


Vocale Ensemble: There is a Vocal Ensemble Rehearsal today at 1:15 in the band room.


Youth In Action: The next Youth in Action meeting is Thursday at 11:23am in Miss Cottier's room.


Canteen Tuesday: On sale today during first recess is pizza, cookies & iced tea.


Canteen tomorrow: Popcorn sold every Wednesday at first recess. Popcorn $1.50,


ROMS SPORTS:


Volleyball:


This week's practice schedule for all teams has been posted on the Royal Oak Athletics webpage, and game schedules and league rules can be found at lowerislandschoolsports.ca. Please have a look to see when your team is practicing and playing this week. Players are reminded to confirm transportation arrangements to away game in advance and be able to tell their coach who is driving them to the game and home.


Grade 6/7 Intra Murals: Today is game 3 of the grade 6/7 dungeon ball series between the blue floor and the green floor. Mr. Menzies will be visiting classes today to notify the divisions who are set to represent their floor at lunchtime today.


Grade 8 Intra Murals:
Reminder to grade 8's to check the intra-mural dodge ball schedule for Wednesday's games.

ROMS PARENT REVIEW:

Registration 2018-19: Registration began, Monday, February 5th at 8:00 am for new students coming in from public and private schools out of district or out of catchment. Students who are currently registered and attending Lochside, Cordova Bay and Prospect do not need to complete a new registration form. Band registration forms are available on our website under Parents>forms> band music programs. Registration forms for enrollment are available on the school's main web page.


Claremont Open House: Thursday, February 8th from 6:00-8:00 pm. There will be short presentations in the Learning Commons on the various programs such as CSI, PEP, STEM, FOFA etc. Please visit the Claremont school website for more information.


Bus Registration: As of February 1st the School District 63 transportation department will no longer be accepting bus registrations for the 2017-18 school year. Please contact the Transportation Department at 250-652-7343 if you have any questions.

ROMS PAC NEWS:


PAC Meeting: Please join us at the next PAC General Meeting on Thursday, February 15 as Claremont School Counsellors will be there to provide information on the Grade 8 transition process, course selection and programs available at Claremont. Come, ask your questions and stay informed.


Grade 8 Farewell Bake Sale on February 14th

We are asking for grade 8 families to provide items to sell at a bake sale

cookies, cupcakes, or even chocolate strawberries!

Today is Tuesday, February 6, and here’s the news about what’s happening at ROMS.  The weather calls for some rain showers with a high of 9 degrees.   

Did You know?

  • Did you know rabbits like licorice

  • Did you know a lobsters blood is colorless but when exposed to oxygen it turns blue

 

Intra murals:     Intra murals are on happening in the big gym today and tomorrow!  Be sure to listen to announcements to find out when your class plays!

Recycling:  Every piece of paper you recycle is one less in our landfill.  There should not be any paper in any of our garbage cans.

Popcorn sales are every Monday and one other day of the week.  Do you know when the second day is?  If not, be sure to find out.  

Ask your teacher question:    What is family Day and when did it begin?  

Olympic News:

The first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. In the opening ceremony, King Georgios  and a crowd of 60,000 spectators welcomed 280 participants from 13 nations (all male), who would compete in 43 events, including track and field, gymnastics, swimming, wrestling, cycling, tennis, weightlifting, shooting and fencing.

Grade 8 Students:  Claremont is hosting a informational night on Feb 8th for it’s specialty programs.  Please let your parents know and have them check out the Claremont website.
