Archery Club: A reminder to Archery club members to meet Mr. Kenny at the front of the school at 3:00 pm today.

Boys Group: Reminder about Boys' Group Meeting at the Beginning of Advisory in the Blue Conference Room. 


From the Learning Commons:
Today we're starting our two-week contest to get students to start bringing their picture ID when they're signing out books. Today, if you're the FIFTH card-carrying student signing out a book, you'll win a prize! 


Math Challengers:
The next math challengers practice session is today at 1:15 in Miss Cotter's room.  Please bring your booklet, a calculator, and a pencil.  New members welcome.


ROMS TV News:
ROMS TV  - this is the last day for Liam T., M-3, and Cohen W., M-8. We need next week's anchors, Mikaela B., 6-5 and Ania K., M-6, to come along to today's taping, as well as Karlyn, 6-2, for one more run-through before taking over the reins next week. Teachers, please dismiss these students at 11 am. Thanks!


Youth In Action: There is a Youth in Action meeting today (Thursday) at 11:23am in Miss Cottier's room.


Blue and Yellow Tomorrow: Just a reminder to all students to please wear Blue and yellow tomorrow to help raise awareness for Alzheimer's research. Great job to all classes who have already brought in Money. The Money will be counted at the end of the day on Friday and the prizes will be given on Monday.


Paper Recycling Today:

Just a reminder that it is paper recycling day today. Please make sure that you send a student down with your recycling to the bins at the beginning of Advisory.


Canteen Thursday: On sale today at first recess in the Canteen is chicken wings, cookies &


Pizza Day tomorrow - $2.50 per slice


ROMS SPORTS:


Volleyball:
This week's practice schedule for all teams has been posted on the Royal Oak Athletics web page, and game schedules and league rules can be found at lowerislandschoolsports.ca. Please have a look to see when your team is practicing and playing this week. Players are reminded to confirm transportation arrangements to away game in advance and be able to tell their coach who is driving them to the game and home.

The grade 6/7 boys jamboree team with Mr. James and coach Christian.

The grade 6/7 girls jamboree team with Mrs. Blaikie and Mrs. Gill.


Grade 6/7 Intra Murals:
It was an epic come back by the green floor yesterday as they have taken a 2-0 lead in the grade 6/7 intramural dungeon ball series. Mr. Menzies will be visiting classes soon to advise divisions as to who will represent their floor in game 3 next week.

ROMS PARENT REVIEW:


Claremont Open House: Thursday, February 8th from 6:00-8:00 pm. There will be short presentations in the Learning Commons on the various programs such as CSI, PEP, STEM, FOFA etc. Please visit the Claremont school website for more information.


Bus Registration: As of February 1st the School District 63 transportation department will no longer be accepting bus registrations for the 2017-18 school year. Please contact the Transportation Department at 250-652-7343 if you have any questions.

ROMS PAC NEWS:


PAC Meeting: Please join us at the next PAC General Meeting on Thursday, February 15 as Claremont School Counsellors will be there to provide information on the Grade 8 transition process, course selection and programs available at Claremont. Come, ask your questions and stay informed.


Grade 8 Farewell Bake Sale on February 14th

We are asking for grade 8 families to provide items to sell at a bake sale

cookies, cupcakes, or even chocolate strawberries!

Thrifty Foods Smile Cards:

All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help
with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please
return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school
office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would

Today is Wednesday, January 31, and here’s the news about what’s happening at ROMS.  The weather calls for clouds, rain with a high of 7 degrees.  Where is the dry weather?  No more rain!!

We are now halfway through the school year.    Five months and it  will  be June!  Now that sounds great!

 

Welcome back from a long weekend for students as teachers were in a Pro D training session on Monday.

Did You know?

Intra murals:     Intra murals are on again this week!   Make sure you and your class gets signed up and participates.  

Open House:  Royal Oak is hosting our open house this tomorrow.    Be sure your classroom and desk is clean and there is no straps hanging out of your locker.  We want to present our school the best we can.

Recycling:    Be sure to empty your  blue paper recycling  recycle tower by tomorrow ready for our open house.

Ask your teacher:  Who was selected as the MVP for the NHL All Star game.. If you can not get the answer, do an Internet search to find out.   

Olympic News:

This is the first time South Korea has hosted the Winter Olympics. The 1988 Summer Olympics were held in Seoul, South Korea.

The estimated cost of the Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics is $10 billion, five times less than the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
