Morning Radio News @ 9:05 am

Band Sectionals: There is a grade 6 Percussion sectional today at 12:46 in the Band room. Please bring your lunch!

Vocal Ensemble:
There is a vocal ensemble rehearsal today at 1:15 in the band room! 

Girls Group:
Today's meeting is for rotation 2. We'll meet at the blue conference for some fun activities. See you there! 

Judo: A reminder to that Judo club is today after school in the MPR from 3:15-4:45 pm. See Mr. Mollard if you cannot attend.

Canteen Tuesday: On sale at first recess is pizza bread, cookies & iced tea and special feature of authentic falafel wraps.

Canteen tomorrow: Popcorn sold every Wednesday at first recess. Popcorn $1.50,

Student Council: Next week's student council meeting will be today at 1:16 in the Art Room.

The meeting is important for Open House Planning.

Fund raiser: We are kicking off the Alzheimer's fund raiser today. All proceeds go directly to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Our goal is to raise $1,500. On Friday Feb 2nd we will encourage everyone to wear blue and yellow, which are the colors of the forget-me-not flower which represents Alzheimer's.


Athletic Leadership:
There will be a brief meeting for all members of Athletic leadership today at FIRST recess in the gym. Please be there on time and help remind your fellow leaders of the meeting.

This week's practice schedule for all teams has been posted on the Royal Oak Athletics webpage, and game schedules and league rules can be found at lowerislandschoolsports.ca. Please have a look to see when your team is practicing and playing this week. Players are reminded to confirm transportation arrangements to away games in advance and be able to tell their coach who is driving them to the game and home.

There will be an important meeting for all grade 6 girls playing on both competitive teams today at first recess in the gym. All girls playing on coaches Jim Smyth's and Aaron Parker's teams must attend to discuss games played later today.

Grade 7/8 Girls Rec: There will be an important meeting for all girls on Mr. Sparanese's volleyball team at FIRST recess in his room. All players must attend.

Grade 6/7 Girls Rec: There is a mandatory meeting for all grade 6/7 girls volleyball players in Mrs. Gill's room at first recess.

Gr 6/7 Intra Murals: Grade 6-7 dungeon ball is now Wednesday. Schedule will return to normal next week. Mr. Menzies will visit 6/7 divisions who are set to play tomorrow.

Gr 8 Intra Murals:
Notice that grade 8 intra-mural dodgeball for divisions 8-1, 8-3, 8-5 and 8-7 is now today not Wednesday.

Grade 8 Farewell Bake Sale on February 14th

We are asking for grade 8 families to provide items to sell at a bake sale

cookies, cupcakes, or even chocolate strawberries!

* Please drop off items into the kitchen labeled for the sale. *

* All proceeds are for the final farewell party.

Thrifty Foods Smile Cards:

All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help
with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please
return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school
office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would

Today is Tuesday, January 30, and here’s the news about what’s happening at ROMS.  The weather calls for clouds, rain with a high of 7 degrees.  Where is the dry weather?  No more rain!!

There are now 1 day until we are halfway through the school year.    Five months and it  will  be June!  Now that sounds great!

Welcome back from a long weekend for students as teachers were in a Pro D training session yesterday.  

Did You know?

Intramurals:     Intramurals are on again this week!   Make sure you and your class gets signed up and participates.  


Open House:  Royal Oak is hosting our open house this Thursday.    Be sure your classroom and desk is clean and there is no straps hanging out of your locker.  We want to present our school the best we can.

Recycling:    Be sure to empty your  blue paper recycling  recycle tower by Thursday ready for our open house.

Ask your teacher:  Who was selected as the MVP for the NHL All Star game.. If you can not get the answer, do an internet search to find out.

Olympic News:

This is the first time South Korea has hosted the Winter Olympics. The 1988 Summer Olympics were held in Seoul, South Korea.

The estimated cost of the Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics is $10 billion, five times less than the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
