Morning Radio News @ 9:05 am


Band Sectionals:
There is a grade 6 trombone, baritone and bass guitar sectional today at 12:46 in the band room. Please bring your lunch!


Vocal Ensemble: There is a vocal ensemble rehearsal today at 1:15 in the Band room!


Girls Group:
Girls Group will be starting next Tuesday. Stay tuned for more info!


Judo Club: There is no Judo today after school.  See you back on the mats next week.


From the Learning Commons:

Book Display: We are kicking off the new year with a new type of book display in the LC. If novels aren't your favourite kind of reading, why not try a non-fiction (true) book? This month's display is from the zero's and 100's - the odds and ends section, including Guinness Book of World Records, optical illusions and other fun stuff. They're on display on top of the bookcases - check it out!


Headphones & earbuds:
Earbuds were part of your school supply list back in September. We only have 3 sets of headphones in the LC, so please, bring your own set of earbuds from home and keep them in your locker, rather than expect you can borrow a pair from us. Thanks. 


Archery Club:
The ROMS Archery Club has space for a few new members for our Winter sessions.  If you are interested in joining the archery club meet with Mr. Kenny in the art room today at morning recess.


Chess Club:
Anyone interested in playing chess is welcome to play every tomorrow at lunch in Mr. Azim's room 230.  Students from all grades and skill levels are welcome.  Whether you are a beginner or a competitive chess player, stop in on Wednesday!


ROMS Hoodies:
Final week to order your ROMS hoodie. Order forms and sample sizes are available at the PE office. Order deadline is this Friday to don't delay!


Canteen Tuesday: On sale today in the canteen during first recess will be: pizza bread, cookies & iced tea.


Canteen tomorrow: Popcorn sold every Wednesday at first recess. Popcorn $1.50,

Athletic Leadership:
Reminder to all athletic leadership members of your meeting today during advisory in the gym to discuss and plan intra-murals. Please bring your lunch to the gym after block 3.

Volleyball:


This week's practice schedule for all teams is posted on the ROMS Athletics web page. Please have a look to see when your team is scheduled to practice. Games for competitive teams begin next week so players are asked to ensure they have handed their permission forms into Mr. Menzies.

Practicing today after school are both grade 6 girls competitive teams, and girls from recreational teams are welcome to join.


Grade 8 Intra-Murals:
Notice to all grade 8 divisions to check the intra-mural dodge ball schedule on the PE board. Games start this tomorrow

ROMS PARENT REVIEW:


Lost & Found: The Lost and found items are quickly mounting up again.   We just cleared up the the Lost and Found before the break and now it has over 42 items.  If your child is missing a clothing item, please come in and check the Lost & Found for it.

ROMS parents, this is your opportunity to meet our new Superintendent and ask your questions.

All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help
with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please
return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school

Here is your afternoon ROMS TV News

Today is Tuesday, January 16, and here’s the news about what’s happening at ROMS.  The weather calls for clouds with some rain showers and a high 10 degrees.   Some say spring is around the corner?

There are now 15 days until we are halfway through the school year.   This is a great time to focus on your new focus!  

 

Did You know?

If you somehow found a way to extract all of the gold from the bubbling core of our lovely little planet, you would be able to cover all of the land in a layer of gold up to your knees.

McDonalds calls frequent buyers of their food “heavy users.”

The average person spends 6 months of their lifetime waiting on a red light to turn green.

You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.

 

Learning Commons:    LC is open in the mornings, recess and lunch for students to do school work, read, socialize  or play games.

Bus passes:      If you still do not have one, your parents  need to register with the SBO transportation department.

Assemblies: Wednesday will be school wide assemblies.  Ask your teacher when your assembly is.   Teachers are asked to go over assembly expectations.

Drama Club:  The drama club meets today at 12:45

Intramurals:   Gym lunch dodgeball Intramurals have started this week.   Stay tuned to the morning announcements to see which class plays in dodgeball! .  

Recycling:   Reminder to classes that Thursday is the day we do the blue bin paper recycling right at the end of block 3, before advisory.

World events question:  Who is meeting in Vancouver this week and why are they meeting there?   Ask your teacher.

Sports Question:  Who won the NHL hockey game between Boston and the Montreal Canadiens?  Ask Ms Fuller for the answer.
