Morning Radio News @ 9:05 am

Band Sectionals: There is a grade 6 percussion sectional today at 12:46 in the band room. Please bring your lunch! 

Stage Band:
There is a stage Band rehearsal today at 1:15 in the band room! 

Craft Club: Today at 1:15 in the Art Room. See Ms. Ozi for details.

Boys Groups: Reminder about Boys' Group Meeting at the Beginning of Advisory in the Blue Conference Room. 

Drama Club:
All drama club members have their first rehearsal today in the drama room during advisory. Bring your lunch. Teachers have been informed of the rehearsal during instructional time. Please see Ms Noel or Ms Buxcey if you have any questions.

Math Challengers: The annual Math Challengers competition at UVIC is fast approaching.  Miss Cottier invites any Grade 8 that is interested in competing to an information meeting today at 11:23am in her classroom.  Practice booklets are available and Royal Oak has 10 spots for the competition.

The ROMS 2017/2018 Yearbook is now available for Pre-Orders!  Don't miss your chance to guarantee yourself a one of a kind keepsake of all the memories, events, and moments of this school year! Order forms available from your homeroom teacher, Miss Cottier, or Miss Cottier's website. Yearbooks are $38 and all orders due no later than April 13th.

ROMS Hoodies:

Did you miss the chance to order a Royal Oak Eagles hoodie? You are in luck. Next week there will be a second chance to order this year's official school hoodie. Order forms will be available at the PE office as well as sample sizes to try on. Help fund raise for ROMS Athletics with a new hoodie available next week only!

Paper Recycling Today:

Just a reminder that it is paper recycling day today. Please make sure that you send a student down with your recycling to the bins at the beginning of Advisory.

Canteen today: On sale at first recess today -chicken wings & ice tea.

Pizza Day tomorrow - $2.50 per slice



The volleyball practice schedule is posted on the ROMS Athletics web page. The schedule had been updated several times so be sure to check back frequently. Having their first practices of the year today are:

The grade 6/7 girls rec team with Mrs. Gill and Mrs Blaikie at SECOND recess, and

The grade 6/7 boys recreational team with Mr. Menzies.

All grade 6/7 students interested in playing this year are welcome to come and participate!

Practicing after school today are both the grade 6 girls competitive teams. Girls playing on the recreational team are welcome and encouraged to join this practice too. 


***A reminder that all practice schedules are posted on the ROMS Athletic web page. Games are listed on the lowerislandschoolsports.ca It is your responsibility to know when your team practices or has a game scheduled.

Thrifty Foods Smile Cards:

All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help
with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please
return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school
office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would

Today is Thursday, January 11, and here’s the news about what’s happening at ROMS.  The weather calls for rainy weather with a high 6 degrees.   Remember your umbrellas!  

There are now 15 days until we are halfway through the school year.   This is a great time to sharpen up your strategies and goals for term 2!

Did You know?

The population of Canada is roughly 36 million. It’s the second largest country in the world, but only 0.5% of the world’s population reside in Canada.

Queen Elizabeth II is Canada’s official Head of State.

Playground:   The new play structure will  be open for all grades.  The old structure is supposed to be repaired this week.   Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Learning Commons:  As you know the LC is open in the mornings, recess and lunch.  Reminder that there is no longer any any on line gaming or electronic device usage prior to school in the LC

Pizza day: 1 day to our very first Friday Pizza day for 2018!  Get ready!

Bus passes:     Always have your bus card ready to scan as you load the bus.   Some new bus passes arrived yesterday.  These were delivered to homeroom teachers.  Check with your teacher to see if yours arrived.

Intra murals:   Gym lunch dodge ball Intramural will be starting up again this week.   Stay tuned to the morning announcements.

Recycling:  The recycling stations are open and in full operation.  We are off to a great start with the sorting.  Keep up the efforts RO!

Blue bins:   Be sure your class empties the blue paper recycling bin today!  

Reminder there is no ROMS news on Friday as it is Pizza day!
