ROMS Visitors:
Today Royal Oak will have visitors walking trough our school with Mrs Hunter.  They will be observing how our Middle School works and observe all the exciting learning that happens every day.  Please give a warm welcome as they walk through our hallways and some classrooms. 

Playground Structure:

Playground Structure:  Our new playground and fitness structure is being installed this week.  We have been waiting 3 years for this to happen. We are asking students to stay well away from the construction zone.   Today a cement truck will be here to pour footings for the structure around 1 pm.  


A reminder for Sophia M., Liam S. and Brendan H. to report to the learning commons at 11 am. to tape today's edition of ROMS TV. thanks. 

Polar Expressions Writing Contest:
This is a reminder from Ms. Lindsay about the Polar Expressions writing contest - the deadline is this Thursday, Nov. 30. Need some help finishing up? Want a proofreader/punctuation checker? See Ms. Lindsay before school, at recess or at lunch. 

We Are Rafiki

Starting today the Youth in Action Group will be selling Rafiki bracelets for $10 each at 1:15 at the main entrance! All sales go towards our Ethiopia village initiative. Six colours to choose from! Get them while they last!

Popcorn: On sale at morning recess at the canteen. $1.50 per bag.

ROMS Clothing:
Attention all Royal Oak students and staff! The 2017-2018 Royal Oak Athletics hoodies and sweatpants are now available for order. Get your warm Russell hoodie and sweatpants to keep you toasty and stylish throughout the winter. They also make great Christmas presents. Long sleeve athletic shirts and shorts are also for sale. Order forms can be found on the Athletics bulletin board near the entrance to the gym, as well as on the ROMS Athletics web page, and sample sizes can be tried on in the PE office. Orders will only be accepted this week so don't delay.




This week's practice schedule for all teams has been posted on the Royal Oak Athletics web page, and game schedules and league rules can be found at lowerislandschoolsports.ca. Please have a look to see when your team is practicing and playing this week. Players are reminded to confirm transportation arrangements to away game in advance and be able to tell their coach who is driving them to the game and home.

Gr 8 Boys Competitive:
Practice 8am Wed morning and the final game of the season vs Dunsmuir but the game will be played at PCS at 5:15

Please see Mr. Sparanese if you cant attend.

Gr 8 Intra murals:
Reminder to grade 8's to check the intra-mural indoor soccer schedule for this Wednesday's playoff games.

A message from our Principal:

Staff at Royal Oak are working hard to keep our students focused and engaged during class time. Consequently, we are trying to minimize disruptions while the students are in session.

You can help us by:

1. Asking your son/daughter to remember appointment times/ early pick ups, rather than having office staff to buzz into the class during instructional time.

2. Calling the absence line at 250-479-0999 or emailing romssafearrival@sd63.bc.ca to report planned absences or early pick ups.

We understand that sometimes life is unpredictable and are happy to pass along urgent or necessary messages during recess and lunch activity. However, if we can keep these messages to a minimum, it supports our focus on student learning and growth.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us for all of the students' education.

Purdy's Chocolates: ***ORDER DEADLINE NEARING***

PURDY'S Chocolatier Fund raiser begins today. Purdy's chocolates are made fresh in Vancouver from only 100% sustainable cocoa. This program gives 25% of the sales back to the School PAC. Thrifty Foods Smile Cards:

All grade 6 students have been given a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to help
with PAC Fund raising.  If your family is not intending to use it, please
return it to the school by dropping it into the PAC box outside the school
office.  In that way, we can re-assign it to someone else. If you would

  • The border between Canada and the United States is officially known as the International Boundary. At 5,525 miles, including 1,538 miles between Canada and Alaska, it is the world's longest border between two countries

The countdown is on!  29 days to when the big  guy in a red suit comes to Victoria.  Make sure you are on the nice list.   

Outside days!  When it is an outside day, we expect all student to get their snacks, coat and be outside or in one of the  assigned location.

Recycling:   Keep sorting your items before they leave the classroom!  

Intra Murals are on today in the gym.   Be sure to come out and cheer on your class team!   


Paper Recycling,  If you blue bin is full, and you need to dump it on a day rather than Thursday, the dumpsters are always unlocked.
