Early Dismissal:

Reminder that today is another early dismissal for parent teacher interviews.   The bell schedule will be the same as yesterday.  Buses will be here waiting at 2 pm.  Students are to load straight onto the buses with no lining up.


Lost & Found: Please check the lost & found for your missing items as it is over flowing. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the day on Thursday, October 26th.


Recycling Day: Today is paper recycling day. Please send a runner to empty your bins during advisory.


Eagles Club: There will be an art class with Coast Salish artist Doug Le Fortune today in block 2 for all Eagles club members.  Meet in the green conference room and bring a pencil. See Ms Noel or Ms Broome if you have any questions.


Roms News:
Preparations for ROMS TV News is almost complete.  We are hoping to have the News program up and going next week.  Stay tuned.



Halloween Spooktacular: (Ghost/Halloween noises) . . . . . . . Come join us for a SPOOKTACULAR time at Claremont Secondary School on Friday October 27th. Royal Oak students have special time to attend from 5 - 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 each and will be sold outside the office today during lunch activity time, 1:15 - 2:00. Don't miss out on this Haunted Halloween House.


Popcorn: On sale at morning recess at the canteen. $1.50 per bag.


Canteen Thursday: On sale at recess tomorrow -chocolate chip cookies, mac & cheese & ice tea.


Pizza Day tomorrow: $2.50 per slice.


ROMS SPORTS:


Basketball: 

Competitive team rosters have been finalized and posted. All players who are not on competitive teams, are welcome to play on recreational division teams. Please go to the ROMS Athletics webpage for practice schedule details and coach's contact information. Games start for competitive teams next week, so players on these teams are encouraged to discuss transportation arrangements with their parents.


Cross Country: A reminder to all athletes of the Meet at Juan de Fuca this afternoon. Please arrange your rides so you have at least 15 minutes to warm-up prior to your race. Remember... grade 6's run at 3:45, grade 7's run at 4:00, and grade 8's run at 4:15. Good luck!


Soccer:

Congratulations to the grade 6/7 girls soccer team on their season! The team played hard and had a lot of fun this season. Thanks to the parent coaches who helped lead this team throughout the season. Great job Eagles!

Reminder to the grade 7/8 girls team of your tournament later today at Gordon Head. There is an important meeting today at first recess in the Blue Conference Room 227.

Grade 6/7 Boys:
A reminder of your morning practice tomorrow at 8am. Be sure to know who is driving you to and from the game. If you have any questions see Ms. Dallimore in the PE office today. 


Swim Club: There is still room on the Royal Oak swim team for any students who are still interested. Please see Mr. Menzies for a permission package and further details.

Miraculous Maya:

One of Royal Oak Middle School's precious treasures, Maya and her family need our help. Maya suffers from a rare genetic disorder called MPS. She is currently in Children's hospital in Vancouver recovering from open heart surgery and is waiting to have surgery on both hips. Swim Club Volunteers:

We are still in need of parent supervisors for practices, in order for us to run the Royal Oak swim program this year. Parents, please contact Mr. Menzies if you are able to help.


Coupon Books: Notices have been sent home to families who have not yet returned their money or coupon book. Please submit your $25 or return the coupon book to the office as soon as possible.

Grade 8 Farewell:


Attention All Grade 8 Families - the first planning meeting for the Grade 8 Farewell Celebration will take place on Thursday October 19 from 6-7 in the Learning Commons. Come out and give us your input on how we can make this years event a great memory for our students last year at ROMS.


PAC Budget Meeting:

Please joins us for our next PAC Meeting this Thursday October 19th at 7:00 pm in the Learning commons. See attached agenda.
This is our first budget meeting of the year. Come and have a say on how PAC funds are distributed.

Thrifty Smile Cards:

We have been accepted by Thrifty Foods to take part in their Smile Card
Program to earn up to $2500 this school year!  Thrifty Foods will give 5%
of what you spend on groceries to our school!  As in the last few years,
the PAC will be sending out a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to each grade 6
family.   The card is easy and free to use - you pre-load it with an amount
of your choice and use it like a cash card.  If you don't want to use your
card, please return it to the PAC Box outside the office. Thanks for
your support!
