A reminder to students and staff that today and tomorrow are early dismissal days. Please follow the early dismissal bell schedule that was sent out to teachers last week.


Band Sectionals:
There is a grade 6 Flute, Clarinet and Violin Sectional today at 12, during Advisory time. Please bring your lunch.


Vocale Ensemble:
There is a Vocal Ensemble rehearsal today in the Band room at 12:29, during second recess. New members are still welcome.


Eagles Club: There will be an art class with Coast Salish artist Doug Le Fortune this Wed in block 2 for all Eagles club members.  Meet in the green conference room and bring a pencil. See Ms Noel or Ms Broome if you have any questions.


France Trip 2018: The France meeting for the 2018 travelers is canceled today. 


Girls Group:
Today's meeting is for Rotation 1. We will be walking to Brydon Park, please meet us in the Blue Conference Room right after class ready to go. Make sure you pack a lunch as we will all eat at the park together and then play some disc golf! See you there! 


Judo:
There will be no Judo today after school as there are parent teacher interviews.  See you back on the mat next Tuesday.

Halloween Spooktacular: (Ghost/Halloween noises) . . . . . . . Come join us for a SPOOKTACULAR time at Claremont Secondary School on Friday October 27th. Royal Oak students have special time to attend from 5 - 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 each and will be sold outside the office today during lunch activity time, 1:15 - 2:00. Don't miss out on this Haunted Halloween House.  Visit Claremont Secondary school website for more details!


Canteen tomorrow: Popcorn sold every Wednesday at first recess. Popcorn $1.50,


ROMS SPORTS:


Basketball:
The grade 6/7 boys competitive team roster has been finalized and posted on the PE office door. All grade 6/7 boys interested in playing are encouraged to check to see if they were selected for the team. Mr. Menzies is coaching the 6/7 boys rec team and all boys are welcome to participate. Player permission packages for all teams will be handed out shortly.

Practice Schedule this week:

Wednesday 8-9am, Friday 9am till noon. Please see Mr. Sparanese if you cannot attend.


Intra Murals:
The first rounds of intra murals are set to begin today. Grade 6/7 classes play on Tuesdays and grade 8 classes play Wednesday. Members of Athletic Leadership will come to your class to let you know when you are set to play. Divisions that play today are: 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, and 6-4. Participating students can come to the gym right after advisory, dressed in their PE strip, ready to play after advisory.


Soccer:
Congratulations to the grade 7/8 boys team on a great season The team went 3 and 1 in their season and had a lot of fun. Well done Eagles!

Playing later today is the grade 6/7 girls team here at Royal Oak. Games start at 3:45. There will be a morning practice for the grade 7/8 girls team with Mrs. Broome. Please be at school by 8:00 ready to practice and prepare for your tournament later today at Gordon Head.

Swim Club: There is still room on the Royal Oak Swim team for students who are interested in joining. Please see Mr. Menzies for details on how to sign up.

Miraculous Maya:

One of Royal Oak Middle School's precious treasures, Maya and her family need our help. Maya suffers from a rare genetic disorder called MPS. She is currently in Children's hospital in Vancouver recovering from open heart surgery and is waiting to have surgery on both hips. Swim Club Volunteers:

We are still in need of parent supervisors for practices, in order for us to run the Royal Oak swim program this year. Parents, please contact Mr. Menzies if you are able to help.


Coupon Books: Notices have been sent home to families who have not yet returned their money or coupon book. Please submit your $25 or return the coupon book to the office as soon as possible.

Grade 8 Farewell:


Attention All Grade 8 Families - the first planning meeting for the Grade 8 Farewell Celebration will take place on Thursday October 19 from 6-7 in the Learning Commons. Come out and give us your input on how we can make this years event a great memory for our students last year at ROMS.


PAC Budget Meeting:

Please joins us for our next PAC Meeting this Thursday October 19th at 7:00 pm in the Learning commons. See attached agenda.
This is our first budget meeting of the year. Come and have a say on how PAC funds are distributed.

Thrifty Smile Cards:

We have been accepted by Thrifty Foods to take part in their Smile Card
Program to earn up to $2500 this school year!  Thrifty Foods will give 5%
of what you spend on groceries to our school!  As in the last few years,
the PAC will be sending out a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to each grade 6
family.   The card is easy and free to use - you pre-load it with an amount
of your choice and use it like a cash card.  If you don't want to use your
card, please return it to the PAC Box outside the office. Thanks for
your support!
