Service Dog at Royal Oak:
Royal Oak we have a service dog for one of our students starting  today.  Service dogs are for a specific purpose, in our case to support a student in grade 8.  We are not to pet, feed, call or interact with our new service dog.    Service dogs are specially trained to perform a clear task. Thank you for your support with regards to this matter.


France Trip 2018: All grade 8 students traveling to France this year, please meet at 1:15 today in Mrs. Ryan's room for a very important meeting

Lochside Dance Volunteers:
Any students interested in volunteering at the Lochside Community Dance on Oct 19 from 5:30 to 8:30, please see Ms. Hunter in the office during the first recess.


Scream fest: (Ghost/Halloween noises) . . . . . . . Come join us for a SPOOKTACULAR time at Claremont Secondary School on Friday October 27th. Royal Oak students have special time to attend from 5 - 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 each and will be sold outside the office from Tuesday to Friday this week. Don't miss out on this Halloween Haunted House.  Click here for details!


Popcorn: On sale at morning recess at the canteen. $1.50 per bag.


ROMS SPORTS:


Basketball:


Grade 7/8 Girls practice at SECOND recess today is the grade 7/8 girls competitive team. Practicing tomorrow morning at 8:00 will be the 6/7 boys rec team with Mr. Menzies. Please be there on time wearing full PE strip.


Reminder to boys interested in the grade 7-8 recreational basketball team of their practice at lunch today.


Grade 7/8 Rec: Any grade 7/8 girls interested in playing recreational basketball: there will be an important meeting in the MPR today at the beginning of lunch activity.  


Cross Country:
A reminder to all Cross Country Athletes of your last practice Tuesday before school. Also, don't forget about your last Meet at Juan de Fuca on Wednesday after school.


Intra Murals: Notice to divisions 8-1, 8-2, 8-3 and 8-4 of their intra-mural indoor soccer games Wednesday at lunch.


Rowing:
This weekend saw 9 crews and 21 athletes rowing on Saturday and Sunday in the October Sprints at Elk Lake.  ROMS competed against other grade 8 teams in several 1000 metre races.  Our crews were spectacular and looked as though they had been rowing together for months not weeks! Congratulations on all of the strong finishes, the teamwork and the sportsmanship.  Go ROMS!


Soccer:
All soccer teams are scheduled to play their second and final tournament this week. please go to the

There will be an important meeting for the grade 7/8 boy soccer team today at FIRST recess in room 130, Mr. Sparanese's room, to discuss final details for today's game at Gordon Head. All players must attend.

Swim Club:
There is still room on the Royal Oak swim team for students who are interested. Please go to the ROMS Athletics webpage for details, and see Mr. Mezneis for a permission package if you are interested.

Miraculous Maya:

One of Royal Oak Middle School's precious treasures, Maya and her family need our help. Maya suffers from a rare genetic disorder called MPS. She is currently in Children's hospital in Vancouver recovering from open heart surgery and is waiting to have surgery on both hips. Swim Club Volunteers:

We are still in need of parent supervisors for practices, in order for us to run the Royal Oak swim program this year. Parents, please contact Mr. Menzies if you are able to help.


Coupon Books: Notices have been sent home to families who have not yet returned their money or coupon book. Please submit your $25 or return the coupon book to the office as soon as possible.

Grade 8 Farewell:


Attention All Grade 8 Families - the first planning meeting for the Grade 8 Farewell Celebration will take place on Thursday October 19 from 6-7 in the Learning Commons. Come out and give us your input on how we can make this years event a great memory for our students last year at ROMS.


PAC Budget Meeting:

Please joins us for our next PAC Meeting this Thursday October 19th at 7:00 pm in the Learning commons. See attached agenda.
This is our first budget meeting of the year. Come and have a say on how PAC funds are distributed.

Thrifty Smile Cards:

We have been accepted by Thrifty Foods to take part in their Smile Card
Program to earn up to $2500 this school year!  Thrifty Foods will give 5%
of what you spend on groceries to our school!  As in the last few years,
the PAC will be sending out a Thrifty Foods Smile Card to each grade 6
family.   The card is easy and free to use - you pre-load it with an amount
of your choice and use it like a cash card.  If you don't want to use your
card, please return it to the PAC Box outside the office. Thanks for
