Orange Shirt Day: Today is Orange Shirt Day!  Thank-you to all staff and students who remembered to wear orange today to honour and remember the 150,000 children who were taken from their homes to attend the residential school system in Canada.  We will never forget.  

At the recess bell come to the front of the school right away for staff and student school photo!  

We welcome Doug and Kathy Lafortune today to join our school for our Orange Shirt Day photo. Doug is a Coast Salish artist who designed our Welcome Pole and our Hallway Decals. Meet at the front of the school right away at first recess for a photo. 


We Day:
The list of participants for the 2017 Royal Oak We Day has now been posted outside of Miss Cottier's classroom.  We want to thank all 40 applicants for their heart felt and compassionate projects.  Please pick up a permission form from Miss Cottier if you have been selected to attend.  


Grade 6 Immunizations: All Grade 6 immunization forms are due in by Monday, October 2nd. Please remember to bring your forms to your homeroom teacher.

Terry Fox:

It is now 37 years years since the original Marathon of Hope.

Terry Fox is part of our landscape, part of our culture, part of our yearly calendar, part of how we teach one another what a HERO is!!

Please remember your donation and your running shoes for Tuesday, October 3rd.

Cops 4 Cancer:

Tour de Rock riders are coming to Royal Oak on Friday, Oct 6th.  Today they are in Port Alberni!! A reminder to students and staff to start bringing in your donations Monday. Donation cans will be brought to your classroom today.

Remember, Dunk Tank!! Raise money – means select teachers in the dunk tank!!!


Pizza Day – Classes will be called in the following order: Orca hallway, raven, Thunderbird and then Wolf Helpers: Div 8-1


ROMS SPORTS:


Soccer:
Congratulations to our 6/7 boys and 7/8 girls soccer teams on their performance in tournaments this week. Both squads tried their best and also did a great job representing Royal Oak soccer. Well done Eagles!!

Swim Club:
Attention all students interested in joining the Royal Oak Swim Team this year. We will be holding meetings early next week to get the season rolling so stay tuned to announcements next week for meeting times and locations. 


Basketball: Royal Oak basketball will be officially starting next week, so students are advised to listen carefully to announcements for team meetings and details next week. 


Cross Country:
Royal Oak Cross Country Athletes showed TRUE GRIT yesterday at the Cross Country Meet at Lambrick Park School. All of the runners gave 100 % effort and showed great sportsmanship. A special congratulations goes out to top 10 finishers...

ROMS PARENT REVIEW:



Grade 6 immunizations

FORMS DUE MONDAY OCTOBER 2ND.
Recently immunization consent packages for grade 6 students were sent home from the school. If you have not already done so, please return the completed consent form to the school in a sealed envelope as soon as possible. Students in grade 6 will be offered immunizations in school-based clinics with the consent of a parent(s) or representative. Please contact the local Health Unit at  250-544-2400 and ask to speak with a Public Health Nurse if you have any questions. Immunizations will be provided at the school for grade 6 students on October 24, 2017.

Coupon Books: A friendly reminder to all students and parents to please hand in your coupon book orders or return the coupon book to the office asap.

Please complete information forms package and return them to Homeroom teacher asap.
