Arts Showcase: Students interested in show casing their art projects on May 24th during the band concert please see Mr. Kenny to sign up during homeroom or advisory..


Miss Fuller's PE classes are reminded of their badminton quiz today.  Get changed and bring a pen or pencil to the gym.


Band Sectionals: There is a grade 6 percussion sectional today at 12:47. Please bring your lunch. 


Stage Band:
There is a Stage Band rehearsal today at 1:16. All members must attend!


France 2018 Trip: All grade 7 students traveling to France next year, please meet in Mme Ryan's room at 1:16 today.


Chill Zone: A friendly reminder to Chill Zone members to meet same place and same time today.


Pizza Day tomorrow - $2.50 per slice


Canteen today: On sale at recess -cookies, slushies and garlic bread pizza..

Good afternoon Royal Oak!  Here are the News stories you have been waiting for.  Today is Thursday, May 18th, 2017 and here is what is happening at 751 Travino Lane.



Do you know that when athletes raise their head and arms in victory or slump their shoulders in defeat, that these actions are innate behaviours and occur worldwide.  Blind athletes who have never seen theses gestures do them as well!



Riddle:  Two girls have the same parents and were born at the same hour of the same day of the same month, but they are not twins. How can this be possible?



Answer:  They were not born in the same year.  



 1) Today's weather:   This morning it’s 10 degrees out there with a mix of sun and cloud and a 20% chance of rain.  A mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon, and a chance of reaching 14 degrees.          



2) Health Facts: Borborygmus is the scientific name for when your stomach growls.  (bor·bo·ryg·mus)



3)   There are a lot of school events starting up.  Be sure to listen to the morning announcements to see where you might get involved in your school.   



4)  Keep up your recycling.  Recycling reduces the amount of garbage we send to our landfill.  



5)  Pizza day and chocolate milk is this Friday.   You have to love pizza!!



6) Do you know that we know more about the surfaces of Mars and the moon than we do about the bottom of our oceans?

ROMS PARENT REVIEW:


Band Concert & BBQ: Please join us for our annual fund raiser BBQ and Band Concert on Wednesday, May 24th from 4:30-8:00 pm. Everyone Welcome!



Arts Showcase: Students will have the opportunity to show case their art projects and will be on display the evening of the Band Concert. They sign up with Mr. Kenny in the Art Room.



Early Closure: A reminder to parents that next week, Thursday, May 25th is early dismissal @ 2:08 pm



Fieldtrips: A reminder to parents that the school is busy with field trips at this time of year. If your child has an Epi Pen – please make sure that you send it with your child on the field trip.



PAC REVIEW:


PAC Executive Elections for 2017/2018 7 School Year

Royal Oak Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Executive Nominations are now open! Come and make a difference in your child’s education.

Elections will be held at the May, PAC Annual General Meeting on ThursdayMay 18th at 7:00 PM in the Learning Commons. You must attend in person to vote (no proxy voting) and Nominations may be received at the meeting, voting will be by secret ballot.



If you are interested in running for a position, wish to nominate someone or have any questions; please contact the Chair of the Nominating Committee Jenny Eastman at:  ferns1@telus.net



All positions are open for election each year a list of the available positions is listed below. Descriptions of each position are in the attachment as taken from the PAC Constitution.



It is very important that we get new parents to carry on the PAC Executive roles. Some positions require more involvement and time than others, but most require just 3 to 4 hours a month, and can be job-shared.  Come help out – we need you.

Grade 8 Families

Planning for the Grade 8 Farewell is well underway. As many of you know, the event is on June 26 from 6-9 and the theme for the event is Sunset Beach Party.


Tickets for the event are $10 and will be on sale every Thursday and Friday at lunch recess from May 25 - June 9.


Please send baby photos of their kids at the "beach" to melanie.posthuma@ebuynow.com so that we can put together a video to run at the event.
