Good afternoon Royal Oak! Here are the News stories you have been waiting for. Today is Thursday, May 4th, 2017 and here is what is happening at 751 Travino Lane
Do you know that we have invited all 5 Saanich North Candidates to ROMS to help us become informed voters? Yesterday Andrew McLean (Libertarian Party) visited us in the Gym in block 2 and presented his Party’s Platform, we also had Mark Neufeld join us in block 4. Thank you to both Candidates and to everyone who asked questions. Both Andrew and Mark were extremely impressed with all of your questions, stating that the questions kept them on their toes. Way to go ROMS!
Did you also know that tomorrow you will be going to the polls and voting as part of Student Vote BC 2017. Each hallway ( Raven, Wolf, Thunderbird, & Orca) will have its own polling station. These polling stations will be open blocks 1 and 3. Block 2 we are welcoming Lana Popham (Saanich South Candidate) to the Gym for her platform presentation and Question & Answer session. Thank you to our Student Vote Leadership Team who will be running the day. If you are still unsure how to vote without spoiling your ballot, check out windows inside the library. You will find 4 examples of a Valid Ballot and 4 Examples of a Spoiled Ballot, so please check them out as we are trying to have ZERO spoiled ballots.
If you happen to miss your opportunity to vote in block 1 or 3, you will be able to vote in the Learning Commons during advisory (with teacher permission) and lunch. Block 4 is reserved for ballot counting as we have to submit our numbers to Student Vote CIVIX later that evening. Please don’t forget to bring photo ID with you. Your hallway scrutineer will be checking off your name when you arrive at the appropriate polling hallway.
One last thing: You may see the media joining us tomorrow, so don’t be alarmed. With that being said, they may also not show up, but be prepared.
1) Today's weather: A beautiful day expected today. Currently the temperature is sitting at 13 degrees with a 10% chance of precipitation. This afternoon the temperature hopefully moves up to 16 degrees with a 10% chance of precipitation. Even though we are expecting a nice day with the sun, expect to see a few clouds hanging around, just in case mother nature decides to give our environment a little moisture.
2) Health Facts:
Your heart beat 100 000 (one-hundred thousand) times a day, 36 500 000 (36 million 500 thousand) times a year and over a billion times beyond the age of 30. Make sure to keep your heart healthy and get well into the billions!
3) There are a lot of school events starting up. Be sure to listen to the morning announcements to see where you might get involved in your school.
4) Keep up your recycling. Recycling reduces the amount of garbage we send to our landfill.
5) Pizza day and chocolate milk is this Friday. You have to love pizza!!
6) And for today’s Teaser:
A person is trapped in a room. The room has only two possible exits: two doors. Through the first door there is a room constructed from magnifying glass. The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters. Through the second door there is a fire-breathing dragon. How does the man escape?
Answer: Wait until night time and then goes through the first door.
