ROMS TV Announcements

Good afternoon Royal Oak!  Here are the News stories you have been waiting for.  Today is Thursday, April 27th, 2017 and here is what is happening at 751 Travino Lane.

Do you know  that on Friday May 5th, ROMS will be going to the polls?  That’s right, you will have the opportunity to participate in Student Vote 2017 for the upcoming Provincial Election, right here at school.  You will experience what it is like to cast a vote, and attend a voting station.   It’s important that before you vote, you are informed, so read up!

Did you also know that we are trying to get every single student in the school to vote in the 2017 Student Vote.  In order for us to accomplish this goal, you must have your student card (announcers:  Please show yours as a demonstration) with you on Friday May 5th.  Don’t worry, we will remind you here on ROMS news, AND you do not have to prove where you live.  In the meantime, ask your family what would happen if they forgot their photo identification when they go to a polling station; would they still be allowed to vote?

1) Today's weather:  The temperature this morning is 8 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud and a 30% chance of a shower.  Moving into the afternoon we expect to see more sun and less cloud, only 10% chance of rain and 13 degrees.

2)  Creatures of Habitat:

The final count is finally in!!

Congratulations to all participating students for your struggle to free Mahon Brook of invasive blackberry bushes.

We know a blackberry bush is down for the count when we remove the crown.

The final score?

Royal Oak: One Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty One Crowns.  You heard that right 1,521!

Black Berry Bushes: 0

Classes are congratulated for their contributions to the cause:

Third Highest Class Crown Total goes to:

Div 73 at 174 Crowns

Div 63 edged ahead for a second place finish with 176 Crowns

With the highest count at 202 Crowns, congratulations go to Division 64

Congratulations are also due to the class that wrestled the largest blackberry bush and emerged holding the Crown.  A shout out goes to Josh Yan, Josh Gant, Michael Chen, and Joe Malinosky who emerged victorious with the largest crown bringing honour home to Division 63.

Congratulations Royal Oak, better luck next time Blackberry Bushes!

3A) Health Facts:

It’s thought that if you build up carbon dioxide in your body (by not exhaling), it will help stop your diaphragm from spasming, which is what causes the hiccups. When your diaphragm contracts involuntarily, it forces a quick intake of breath that’s suddenly stopped by the epiglottis—a flap of cartilage located in the throat behind the tongue. That closure is what causes the hiccup sound.  So next time you have the hiccups, hold your breath!

4)   There are a lot of school events starting up.  Be sure to listen to the morning announcements to see where you might get involved in your school.

5)  Keep up your recycling.  Recycling reduces the amount of garbage we send to our landfill.

6) And for today’s math challenge:

This is to be done in your head only, and NOT written down.  Here we go:

  • Take 1000 and ADD 40 to it

  • Now add another 1000

  • Now add 30

  • Another 1000

  • Now add 20

  • Now add another 1000

  • Now add 10

Put your hand up if you got 5000!!!!

5000 is INCORRECT!

Put your hand up if you got 4100!!!

That’s right, the answer is actually 4100.  Here, let’s try it again (you can write it down if you’d like)

*Repeat the riddle*

That concludes our TV news cast! Please join us tomorrow for further breaking news stories here on 751 News!

Thanks for making ROMS TV your #1  station! If it is happening, it is happening here on 751 TV
