Morning Radio News @ 9:05 am

Drawing Club: Today in Ms. Noel's Room during activity time, please bring pencil crayons, skinny felts, pencil,a ruler and glue.


Canteen today: Popcorn on sale at first recess. Popcorn $1.50,


Canteen Thursday:
On sale at recess tomorrow -chocolate chip cookies, smoothies, and burritos.

Rick Hansen Youth Leadership Summit: Congratulations to Dacian in Div M-4 for being selected to attend the Rick Hansen Youth Leadership Summit in Ottawa May 20-22, 2017.


ROMS SPORTS:

Volleyball:
Congratulations to the grade 7 girls competitive volleyball team on a great season! The girls played hard, and showed great teamwork and sportsmanship last night in the Lower Island Middle School Sports City Championships, taking second place. The final match was full of close and exciting rallies and the girls gave Gordon Head a tough final match. Thanks to Jim and Abbey Phillips for their time and dedication coaching to the team this season!

Up next, ROMS is hosting the grade 8 girls City Championships tonight after school. Come out to support our grade 8 girls as they attempt to become 2017 City Champs!

Finally, reminder to all volleyball players this season to please return any jerseys you may have accidentally taken home as they are expensive and we will need them for other upcoming sports.


Dodgeball Championships: Intra-mural dodgeball championships for 8-1, 8-2, 8-3 and staff are next Wednesday at lunch. 

Basketball Intra-murals:
The second quarter final for the 6/7 basketball intramurals will take place tomorrow Thursday March 9th during SECOND recess. Teams playing are (M-5) vs (7-1), and (6-1) vs. (6-3).

Rugby:
Notice to all grade 8 boys interested in rugby - first practice is Wednesday after school, with our 2nd being next Monday. Cleats and mouth guards mandatory.

Good afternoon Royal Oak! Here are the News stories you have been waiting for.  Today is Wednesday, March 8th and here is what is happening at  751 News! .



Do you know  today is the 8th day of  March and we only have 7 school days left until spring break!  Yes!!



Did you also that our grade 8 girls and boys volleyball teams have both made it to the city finals!  Games will be played tonight! Go teams go!!



1) Today's weather calls for cloudy skies with rain showers once again and a high of 6 degrees.    We want spring!!  



2) Health Fact:  

The average teenager needs 8 - 9 hours of sleep every night.   Are you getting your proper sleep in??  One night of a lack of sleep can reduce your cognitive ability by 20 %.   Get sleeping kids!

3)  Grade 8’s!  Time is running out to email it to Ms. Cottier your baby photo.  



4)  Grade 8’s - All the Claremont  course selection forms have been taken up to Claremont.  If you still have yours, you now have to take it to Claremont yourself.

5)  It was great having Jesse Miller yesterday.   We now have a lot to think about and changes to be made with regards to our social media and cell phone usage.



6)  Our Japanese Students will have their second day at Royal Oak.  They really enjoyed their day yesterday.  Please keep the RO welcome up as you see them in the hallways today.



7) And for today’s joke of the day:

Canada 150:

Royal Oak students have the opportunity to be videoed by Historica Canada on what Canada means to them. Participating students need to have a permission form signed prior to being videoed. 
participating students are eligible to win great prizes and get a slice of pizza. 

Intermediate Prizes (Ages 11-13) – The 1st place winner will receive a $3,000 gift card, choosing one of the following: Air Canada, Via Rail, Indigo, Best Buy or Cineplex. 

Senior Prizes (Ages 14-18) – The 1st place winner will receive a $5,000 gift card, choosing one of the following: Air Canada, Via Rail, Indigo, Best Buy or Cineplex. 

The People’s Choice Prize – The participant who submits the video with the highest number of votes will receive a Best Buy E-Gift Card valued at $1,000. The People’s Choice Prize is open to all video submissions.
