Early Dismissal Today: A reminder that tomorrow Wednesday, February 15th is early dismissal at 2:08 pm.


Bake Sale: The Grade 8 Farewell bake sale is happening again today at first recess.


Talent show meeting: Students who have signed up to audition and who are interested in performing in the Talent show, please meet in room 220 today during FIRST recess.


Drawing Club is canceled for this week. Please join us next Wednesday.


Canteen today: Popcorn on sale at first recess. Popcorn $1.50,


Canteen Thursday:
On sale at recess tomorrow -chocolate chip cookies, smoothies, and burritos.

Science Challengers:
There is an important information meeting at lunch recess today in Room 130.


Math Challengers:
The final Grade 8 Math Challengers meeting is tomorrow Thursday, February 16th at 1:16 in Miss Cottier's room.


ROMS SPORTS:

Volleyball: Congratulations to our 6/7 girls competitive teams on their games last night. Both teams put forth their best effort and were successful in their matches at Dunsmuir and here at ROMS. Great job girls!

Team practising later today is the grade 8 boys competitive team after school starting at 2:15 today.

There will be a very important meeting for all girls on Ms. McManus' grade 8 team today at FIRST RECESS to discuss transportation to today's game at Lansdowne. All players must attend.

Rugby: Reminder to any grade 8 boys interested in rugby of the meeting in Mr. Stanchfield's room Thursday morning recess. 

Dodgeball: Reminder to divisions 8-5, 8-6, 8-7, 8-8 and staff of their intra-mural dodgeball games at lunch today.

Reminder that today is a 1 hour early closure for parents to conference with teachers. Buses will be here at 2:08.



1) Today's weather calls for cloudy skies with a high of 9 degrees.. The forecast tells us that we will have rain showers tomorrow with a temperature of 10 degrees. Hang on, spring is coming!



2) Health Fact:

Droplets from sneezing or coughing can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Less often, a person might also get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth or nose.



3)  On Feb 23, the hallway with the cleanest zone goes first for pizza! Get out and clean your zone!



4) Gr 8's. Be sure to take home your Ski package if you are interested in going on the Ski trip. All Ski Info forms are to be handed into Mr. Kenny.



5)  If you are going on the France trip, remember your meeting Thursday at 1:16



6)  Grade 8’s!  Remember to email your baby photo to Ms. Cottier.



7)  The Big Royal Oak Talent show is coming soon.  Be sure to see Ms Espedido if you are interested in performing your act.

Based on feedback in previous years, Saanich School District #63 has collaborated with Greater Victoria School District #61 and Sooke School District #62 to align school calendar dates wherever possible.

PAC Review:


Bake Sale: Reminder Bake Sale today Tuesday February 14th during lunch time. Proceeds go to the Grade 8 Farewell celebration.


The planning has begun for this years Grade 8 Farewell. This year's theme will be "Sunset Beach Theme". We will hold the next meeting on Thursday, February 16 at 6:00 pm in the Learning Commons. We would welcome any of you to share your ideas before February 9th so that we could consider them in developing the plan. Please forward your ideas tolbartle@shaw.ca or wigngig@telus.net. We look forward to receiving your ideas.


PUBLIC FORUM:


MCMINN PARK PUBLIC FORUM


The District of Saanich, Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a second public event on Tuesday, February 21 at Lochside Elementary School, 1145 Royal Oak Drive, between 4 – 8pm.


Draft concept plans will be made available, they reflect the feedback we received from the first event, from the associated on line survey, and from visits to various schools. Feedback from the event on the 21st will be used to finalize a plan for the park.


This is an open house and people may drop in anytime between 4 - 8pm, pre-registration not required. An on line survey will run from Feb 21-March 7. More information in on our website at saanich.ca/parks.

Questions that Cory can answer;

"Why are we hearing that there may be a larger earthquake here in February?"  "We know our school has kits to respond to earthquakes and disasters but what should we be thinking about as parents and families"? Are there any questions we should be asking our schools about their preparedness? "Is there any new technology or approach to dealing with earthquake preparedness on the horizon?"   Our house seems to be on bedrock - should we be concerned? What zones are of concern in the city? Liquefaction? How can we prepare?
