Open House: Thank you to all of the student helpers, tour guides, extreme team, staff and parents who worked so hard to make our Open House a huge success last night. Rumour has it that room 133 was the place to be last night!!

Band Sectionals: There is a Bass Guitar sectional today in the Band room at 12:47, please bring your lunch!

France 2017 Trip: All grade 8 students, traveling to France this year, please meet in Mme. Ryan's room at 1:16 today.

Anyone interested in playing chess at lunch can come to room 130 on today during the lunch recess. All students and skill levels are welcome. (run until at least spring break)

Talent Show:
C'mon Royal Oakilites! Let's get our groove on dancing, singing, rapping or just doing our thang!! Sign up for auditions that will be held for the next 2 weeks. Sign up is outside of room 220!

Chill Zone: A friendly reminder to Chill Zone members to meet same place and same time today.

Congratulations to the Gr. 8 Competitive Girls Volleyball Team who defeated Spencer and Central last night. The girls are undefeated in league so far this season.

Basketball Jerseys: Reminder to all grade 8 competitive boys basketball players: Please return your full uniform to Mr. Menzies ASAP.

1) Today's weather calls for sunny skies again and a high of only 5 degrees. The forecast tells us that we will be having snow flurries tomorrow with a cool temperature of 3 degrees. Double BBBUUUURRRRRR

2) The Royal Oak Open House was a huge success last night. A big thank you to all the staff and students who worked to make is a great event. We had many positive comments from the parents that attended. Again thank your for showcasing RO in such a positive way.

3) Health Fact:

The human body needs iron to help perform a number of important functions. Iron helps carry oxygen to parts of your body in the form of hemoglobin. Not having enough can lead to iron deficiency and symptoms such as weakness and fatigue.

4) Welcome our new fill in teacher Librarian Ms. Ammaturo who will join us for two weeks as our teacher librarian. Be sure to say hi to her when in the LC.

5) Our school grounds have been cleaned by several classes. They look great. Please keep them this way.

Open House: Just a reminder that ROMS is hosting an Open House this evening from 6:30-8:00 pm for incoming students/families from out of district. There will be two information sessions this year; one from 6:30-7:00 pm and 7:15-7:45 pm Families can attend one of the two information sessions.

The Saanich Board of Education is pleased to share the proposed school calendars for 2017/18 and 2018/19.

Based on feedback in previous years, Saanich School District #63 has collaborated with Greater Victoria School District #61 and Sooke School District #62 to align school calendar dates wherever possible.

PAC Review:

The planning has begun for this years Grade 8 Farewell. This year's theme will be "Sunset Beach Theme". We will hold the next meeting on Thursday, February 16 at 6:00 pm in the Learning Commons. We would welcome any of you to share your ideas before February 9th so that we could consider them in developing the plan. Please forward your ideas tolbartle@shaw.ca or wigngig@telus.net. We look forward to receiving your ideas.



The District of Saanich, Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a second public event on Tuesday, February 21 at Lochside Elementary School, 1145 Royal Oak Drive, between 4 – 8pm.

Draft concept plans will be made available, they reflect the feedback we received from the first event, from the associated on line survey, and from visits to various schools. Feedback from the event on the 21st will be used to finalize a plan for the park.

This is an open house and people may drop in anytime between 4 - 8pm, pre-registration not required. An on line survey will run from Feb 21-March 7. More information in on our website at saanich.ca/parks.
