Wishing everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!  This is the year of the Monkey!  

Let's Talk Science:  The ROMS team competed well at the UVIC Engineering Olympics placing second and learning a lot about engineering.

Congratulations to Mr. Kenny for passing his First Aid training.  He is now one of our new First Aid attendants.

Ms. Smyth's PE Class please meet in Block 2 in Room 231

Youth In Action:  Meeting today during first recess in Ms. Morgan's room.

Games Club:  The Games Club will be meeting in Room 125 at 1:16 pm.

Dance Club: Dance club will meet in the Drama Room at 1:16 today.

Athletic Leadership:  There will be a meeting for all grade 8's in athletic leadership this morning at recess in the gym. All members must attend and please help remind others of the meeting.

Ping Pong:  Notice to all grade 8 ping pong players - check the schedule brackets posted around the school for your play date. Games start Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Practice Schedule:  This week's practice schedule has been posted around the school and on the athletics website. Please take a look to confirm you team's practice times. Also, can any students who  still have volleyball jerseys please return them to Mr Menzies ASAP as we need them for games this week.

Band Sectionals:  All grade 6 clarinetists have sectionals on Tues, Feb. 16 during lunch activity in the band room.

Pink Shirt Day:  Wednesday, Feb 24th Everyone please wear pink for anti-bullying day.  T-shirts will be available for sale outside the office tomorrow during first recess for $10.

Math Contest:  Any student interested in writing the Canadian National Mathematics Contest is encouraged to write in the Learning Commons on Tuesday February 16th.  Grade 6 are writing in Block 1, Grade 7 in Block 2, and Grade 8 in Block 3.  Certificates will be awarded for the top students in each Grade.  Please bring a pencil, eraser, and calculator if you plan to write.

Science Challengers:  Do you enjoy science and math?  Would you like to explore and study areas beyond the curriculum?  Are you willing to join a team and compete against students from other schools? If so, please come to an important meeting on Thursday at lunch activity in room 130.  All grades welcome

Royal Oak Eagles Athletic Clothing is now for sale starting today. See all the options for hoodies, t-shirts, shorts, and sweat pants at the main entrance to the school. Size samples are available to try on in the PE office., and order forms are available outside the gym and also in the school office. Show your Royal Oak Athletics pride and also help support your school athletics programs by ordering some Eagles Athletics Apparel! Order forms are due to Mr. Menzies by Feb 23!

Canteen Tuesday:  Cookies 75 cents, smoothies  50 cents

Yearbook: ROMS 2015/2016 Yearbook is now available for Pre-Order! Yearbooks are 128 pages of full colour awesomeness!! This year the book will contain over 2,000 photos from anything from athletics, to extra-curricular, to random moments caught on camera! Books are $35 and forms are available from Miss Cottier and on her homework website!  Grade 8's have until March 11th to email a baby photo!

Parents & PAC Royal Oak Review @ noon:

Lost & Found:   Our Lost and Found has reached capacity.  All unclaimed items will be given to charity on Wednesday, February 17th.  Please check if your child has lost items.  Thank you!!

The PAC general meeting is tonight, Monday February 15th at 7 pm. Plan to attend and get an update on what is happening at Royal Oak. There will also be a vote on an additional PAC expenditure and a short presentation on various "skill development opportunities" in the TRADES. Stu Rhodes will be the guest speaker for TRADES and it will be covered in the later part of the meeting. Stu came last year and it was a fantastic discussion.
Bottle Depot Account:  The grade 8 farewell committee has setup an account at the Bottle Depot. Parents can drop off their recycling to any of the 3 Bottle Depot locations. YOU MUST REFERENCE our "Royal Oak PAC account" PRIOR to the start of them ringing up your recycling. There will also be a bottle drive at the beginning of April and all proceeds will go to benefit the grade 8 farewell. Thanks to all families for your support.
