Morning Radio News @ 9:05 am

Terry Fox Run: On April 12th 1980, Terry Fox dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean. He then proceeded to inspire and unite Canada by running the equivalent to a marathon a day towards the west coast to raise money for cancer research. But cancer returned in his lungs and he was forced to stop on September 1st 1980 after having run 5,373 kilometres. On June 28th 1981 Terry died... but his dream lived on. Terry Fox Run Day will happen this Thursday October 1st. Please wear red and white and bring a toonie to help achieve Terry's dream of beating cancer.

Open House:  Tomorrow is our Open House for all parents and students from 4 - 6 pm.  This community BBQ and Open house is a chance to kick off our 150 anniversary and for your parents to meet your teachers.  Everyone is invited to come out for the community BBQ starting at 4 pm where will will be serving Hot dogs and other snacks.   Be sure to invite your parents and family! 

Recycling Team: Do you want to make a difference in our Community with recycling?  If so, you need to be part of the RO Recycling Team?   There will be meeting today at at 1:15 in the Art Room.  This team will look after the hallway recycling towers and stations.  It will require service outside of class time.  

ROMS TV:  If your class watches ROMS TV today, send a runner down to the office, during advisory time, with the Word of the Day to be entered into a draw to be the first class to be called for pizza day.

Band: All grade 6 flute players have sectionals today during lunch activity.

Craft Club: today at 1:16- 1:56 at room 125.

Canteen today:  cookies  75 cents, smoothies  50 cents

ROMS SPORTS

Boys Basketball: All boys who are interested in signing up for basketball must attend the official team sign up today at lunch recess. Please be at the gym right after advisory today if you would like to play this season. Team selection practices will not happen today, however stay tuned to the morning announcements for updates.

Grade 8 intra-mural soccer starts tomorrow. Divisions 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 please meet in the gym, in gym strip at 1:20. 

ROMS TV NEWS @ 12:32

Band: There will be a meeting for any students interested in joining jazz band tomorow during lunch activity.

Extreme Team will be meeting tomorrow at Lunch Recess (1:16) in the Blue Seminar Room (Room 227).  Any student in Grade 6, 7, or 8 who would like to join the Extreme Team is welcome to join us at Wednesday's meeting.

Community Days: This Friday the Blue floor will be going swimming at Saanich Commonwealth Pool. The teen centre will be open for students not swimming. You will need to give your teacher a signed permission form in order to leave the school. Students without a permission form will stay at the school and help clean recycle towers. The permission form is on the school website if you have misplaced yours. Please hand in these forms by Thursday.

Word of the Day:  Blood Moon

Grade 8’s Order your gear (hoodies and t-shirts) tomorrow night. Size samples are at the PAC bulletin board by the front door and available on Wednesday night as well. Orders will be taken Wednesday night with payment by cash or cheque and then for sale online with payment through Paypal on the ROMS' new online payment system. 

Parents & PAC Royal Oak Review @ noon:

Tomorrow is our Open House for all parents and students from 4 - 6 pm.  You are invited to come out for the community BBQ starting at 4 pm.  Parents will be able to meet with the classroom teachers from 5:30 - 6 pm.  Mrs Hunter and Mr Bergeron will meet with all new parents to Royal Oak at 6 pm in the MPR. 

Toonie for Terry:  Thursday is the Terry Fox run here at Royal Oak!  We are asking all students to bring in a toonie for the Canadian Cancer Foundation.
