Terry Fox Run: 30 years ago 17 year old Terry Fox discovered he had cancer in his right leg. It had to be amputated. Terry then dedicated himself to running across Canada with a prosthetic leg to raise money to fight this terrible disease. Since then, he has been know as a Canadian hero for his courage and determination. This Thursday is the exciting and exhilarating Terry Fox run. Wear red and white and remember to bring a toonie help support cancer research. If we raise over $1,200 Mr. Bergeron has agreed to wear a ballet tutu during his morning recess supervision this Friday!

Congratulations to Kaya C. who won 2nd prize in the Sidney and Penninsula Literary Arts Festival Student Writing Contest for her story entitled: If the World Were a Board Game: Snakes and Ladders. Well done Kaya!

Open House:  Wednesday is our Open House for all parents and students from 4 - 6 pm.  This community BBQ and Open house is a chance to kick off our 150 anniversary and for your parents to meet your teachers.  Everyone is invited to come out for the community BBQ starting at 4 pm where will will be serving Hot dogs and other snacks. Be sure to invite your parents and family! 

Grade 8’s Order your gear (hoodies and t-shirts) Wednesday night. Size samples are at the PAC bulletin board on Monday by the front door and available on Wednesday night as well. Orders will be taken Wednesday night with payment by cash or cheque and then for sale online with payment through Paypal on the ROMS' new online payment system.

Community Days: This Friday the Blue floor will be going swimming at Saanich Commonwealth Pool. The teen centre will be open for students not swimming. You will need to give your teacher a signed permission form in order to leave the school. Students without a permission form will stay at the school and help clean recycle towers. The permission form is on the school website if you have misplaced yours. Please hand in these forms by Thursday.

Recycling Team: Do you want to make a difference in our Community with recycling?  If so, you need to be part of the RO Recycling Team?   This team will look after the hallway recycling towers and stations.  It will require service outside of class time.  There will be meeting Tuesday at at 1:15 in the Art Room. 

Band: All grade 6 flute players have sectionals tomorrow during lunch activity.

Canteen Tuesday:  cookies 75 cents, smoothies  50 cents

ROMS SPORTS

Cross Country: The next Cross Country practice is tomorrow morning at 8:20 am.  If you haven't brought in your forms, please do so as our first race is on Thursday, October 1 at the Cedar Hill Rec Centre.

Grade 6/7 Girls Soccer: Would all Grade 6/7 Girls Soccer players please see Miss Mah in Room 121 for a brief and important meeting today, at first recess. Please return forms to Miss Mah in Room 121.

Grade 7/8 Boys Soccer: The will be an important meeting for all grade 7 and 8 boys soccer players today at first recess. Please meet Mr Menzies in the gym at 11:25 later this morning.

Grade 6/7 Boys Soccer Team: please be sure to get your player package returned this week!  Player packages can be submitted to Mr. Goy or Mr. Menzies!  

Girls Basketball: All girls who have signed up for basketball this season, or who are interested in playing, must attend a meeting at lunch recess today in the gym. This meeting is the official team sign up for girls who would like to play on a ROMS basketball team, so please remember to be there after advisory this afternoon!

Boys Basketball: Official team sign up for all boys teams will happen tomorrow at lunch recess. Please listen carefully for the reminder announcement tomorrow morning. 

7/8 Boys basketball: There will also be the 7/8 boys competitive team selection practice tomorrow after school. Please come to play with proper shoes and PE strip.

Parents & PAC Royal Oak Review @ noon:

Wednesday is our Open House for all parents and students from 4 - 6 pm.  You are invited to come out for the community BBQ starting at 4 pm.  Parents will be able to meet with the classroom teachers from 5:30 - 6 pm.  Mrs Hunter and Mr Bergeron will meet with all new parents to Royal Oak at 6 pm in the MPR. 

Toonie for Terry:  Thursday is the Terry Fox run here at Royal Oak!  We are asking all students to bring in a toonie for the Canadian Cancer Foundation. 

Red Barn Cards for Sale: fundraising for the PAC - please order by tonight.  Email romsredbarn@gmail.com and then the cards will be available for pick up Wednesday night and you will make payment at that time. (Cash or cheque)

Halloween event: Fright Night tickets for sale Wednesday night. The early bird price is $10 per ticket or Family of 4 tickets for $35. Includes dinner, the haunted walk, games, and fun!  Check out the Halloween table on Wednesday.
